Sticking shutter or aperture on Konica Minolta Dimage G530

Yes I realise its a very old camera but it still produces nice images and is compact and easy to take places. It also has a viewfinder which I prefer.

However I'm getting intermittant overexposed images which I think is due to the fact the camera has been unused and stored for sometime and the shutter or aperture is a little reluctant to work 100% of the time.

That's only my guess though. It seems like if the camera is exposed to a bright scene where the aperture has to go quite small it then struggles to create that small aperture or alternatively the shutter isn't as fast as it is meant to be. Anyway the images are extremely overexposed intermittently. Other times it works well like below;

I've given the camera a few mild jerks and kept using it and it does seem to be reducing the level of this intermittent issue.

The problem is most likely  in the lens, such as a sticky aperture .

Squirt some WD-40 on the lens aperture blades.

Good luck.

Presumably you have no idea what a Dimage G530 is , or that's just a poor attempt at humour that two months to come up with ?

Either way , adding more oil to an aperture blade that's sticking typically because oil out of the grease used to lubricate a focus helicoid has migrated to the blades , is hardly likely to improve things .

Cleaning the blades in a way that leaves them dry is what's needed .

How would you suggest getting oil into a digital point and shoot camera ? presumably soak it in a jug full until the bubbles stop ?

Post a photo that is overexposed , straight from the camera so that we can see the EXIF.

It probably is that the aperture blades are sticking, however those cameras usualy only have a couple of settings at any given focal length.

Ignore the comments about cleaning the blades.

It's a shame that since the OP was written two months ago the writer hasn't even had the manners to respond to anyone .

I doubt they'll post a photo .

Ignore the comments about cleaning the blades.

A quick look at "one blind eye's" posts show that apart from comments that are unhelpful , he also makes posts like the above that would destroy someone's equipment .

He might think he's being cleaver , but he's just being an arsehole .

Certainly best to disregard anything he posts .

One of his comments caused me to be banned for a week when I pointed out that he had just made up what he said he had done and what he was suggesing as at best was dangerous. He has been on my ignore list since.

If the moderator had taken just a few second to visualise what he had written he would have banned him not me.

Could it be an electronics problem, perhaps the light meter?  I've had that intermittent overexposure problem with a ZS50 that has been used quite frequently.  It will work fine for weeks or months, then have a day or so where exposure is hit or miss.  I suspect humidity or dust causing a circuit to act up.

Could be affecting any bad circuit with the mild jerks.  Dislodging dust or whatever.

BTW, what a great little "antique"!  I love reading the reviews written when it first came out.  5mp!!  3x zoom!! A triumph of modern technology.  I've got a Canon that I saved from that era.  Fun to reminisce - in digital photography, the 'distant' past is a lot closer than it used to be.
