Maxxum 5 question

I have a Maxxum 5 SLR with a 28-80, 70-300, and a 50mm macro prime. Should I try to sell these (someplace) or just trade them in on a new camera? There are a number available on eBay but it doesn't look like anybody's buying.

What kind of camera are you wanting to trade (or purchase) for?

If there is a place you can trade these for, how much credit will they give you?

Yes, Ebay is flooded with Maxxum gear and what you have isn't selling for much. The 70-300mm is still popular as is the prime. The higher end bodies can bring a good price.

I'm thinking about a Canon mirrorless, which I'd probably get from Adorama. I won't get much there, but...

Re: Maxxum 5 question

If you check Ebay, you'll get a good idea of what you're likely to get (ignore the silly high prices that seem at odds with the majority of prices for that particular lens).
.
50mm Macro should be the one with highest price, because they are usually very sharp and excellent for Macro shots
.
Alternatively, why not search Ebay for either a dirt cheap KM5D or Sony A100 for pictures, or a Sony A57 for pictures and for video.
.
I mention this, because if you search YouTube, you will often find videos pointing out how good some of these old lenses are (though some aren't), and what a bargain the reviewers think they are. Why give someone else a bargain?
Regards,
Renato

I'll never use the camera again, so it's time to sell it.

Re: Maxxum 5 question

I believe Renato1 was suggesting a Sony A-Mount digital camera so you can reuse the lenses from your Maxxum 5.

Unfortunately the Maxxum 5 camera isn't worth much and I don't know where you will get more than a few dollars for the body any where. Like stated above the 50mm F2.8 macro lens is worth the most from the lot and they might sell for $80 or so in excelolent shape so the most any camera retailer will likely give you for it will be around $30 - $40 if it is in excellent shape. Or you can list the equipment yourself on ebay but that can be a long wait for a sale. I see there is a 50mm macro on ebay listed as [very good] for about $50 including shipping from Japan from a well rated seller. The other lenses aren't highly sought after making their value also in the few dollar range.

I am not familiar with a 70-300mm AF zoom lens from Minolta.  Is is a 70-200, 75-300 or maybe a third party lens?

Purchase the camera you want and that best meets your needs. Don't plan being able to finance much of a new camera with your old film camera.

+1 ... though the A99II is getting scarce and pricey. The A900 is a very nice camera, but a bit long in the tooth at this point.

Or a Sony E mount body and A mount adapter, if you want to go mirrorless. Assuming they are not the Xi variants, all of those lenses can be used on any E mount body with the LA-EA4, or on the A7R4 with the LA-EA5.

If you still want to shoot some film from time to time, being able to share lenses with a modern digital is convenient. Of course, you can do the same thing with a Canon mirrorless, EF to R adapter, and an EOS film body, but you already have the A mount lenses...

A7R2 with SEL2470Z and a number of adapted lenses (Canon FD, Minolta AF, Canon EF, Leica, Nikon...); A7R converted to IR.
