Interestingly enough, the noise disappears not only when I'm in Playback mode, but when I set the mode dial to Video as well (even though IS Mode has IBIS on for video too). Any guesses?

At first I was thinking like camera is metering something in shooting mode, so I set it to Manual, disable IS, set ISO and WB to not auto, but the noise is still there.

Hi all,

I found this post because I started to hear "fan noise" today on my X-S10. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't there before.

I doubt it's IBIS (it sounds different), It could be something with speakers (?). It sometimes get louder, sometimes almost silent (especially when you manually change the mic level or switch modes).

Hope we can found a solution for this problem.

I don't think it's a problem. This has been my primary camera for over a year, and this noise has been present throughout.

Hello,

I've been researching this problem for awhile and it looks like it is the IBIS that causes the noise. The thing is, the IBIS is on even when we set it to off, because when you set it to off, you only tell the camera that you don't want it to deliberately counter the movement of the camera but it remains on to keep the sensor steady in place.

I've tried different settings, tried to detach the lens and so on and nothing affects the noise.

The noise stops entirely and immediately when you switch to Playback mode and in my case the noise gets noticeably lower when I switch to the Video mode. I'm not sure why it is getting quiet in the Video mode though. I may assume there is some sort of noise reduction to prevent the noise from being recorded, I don't know.

But it looks like there is similar "problem" with Fuji X-H1 and Fuji X-T4 models as well and both of them utilise IBIS. And cameras with IBIS are rarely seen in the Fuji's line up.

P.S. Here is some footage of how the IBIS works (start at 6:23):

Hey everyone,

I recently bought a new X-S10 and I'm really happy with it so far! Thanks to everyone who's shared some of their experience and helping me in making this decision over at the buyers advive forum.

After shooting for a few days I've noticed that the camera makes this distinct "fan noise" which is quiet audible in quieter environments in addition to a more coin while type quieter chirping noise which I don't find as distracting as it isn't as pronounced. But the fan noise I pretty much hear all the time when shoting with the camera close to my face and I can even still hear it when the camera is at arms lenghts. It's not super loud but it's loud enough that I don't have to hold the camera against my egainst my ear to hear it. When I do it litterally sounds like there's a little fan inside the camera.

I've found some posts in other forums (here I wasn't as luck with the search function) stating that it's just the IBIS doing it's job. And at least for me it's loud enough that my microphones would pic it up in quiet environments when shooting video, which isn't perfect for me.

I just want to check in with other owners to see wether it's present in all models or wether it's louder or quieter in some.

So do you hear that "fan noise" when your camera is on and you put it against your ear? Do you also hear it further away?

I'm using a non stabilized lens and the sound is 100% coming from the body.

Besides this I'm happy so far and just want to make sure all is good with my particular model and if it's the norm, I hope I'll get used to it.

Thanks already!

Kind regards

Matthias

had the same noise problem years ago with a

Canon 40D with a stabilized lens and Canon

cleared it up instantly with a firmware update

OMG. I have read too many posts from people persevering about there camera sounds and their lens sounds....do these people not have lives..perspective..I am a physician in the midst of a pandemic and have patients for little.  What I can tell you is the noise is probably normal and you will not die from it.

but it should be addressed by Fuji same as if you hear "echos" which shouldn't be there

My x-s10 make same noise while in photo mode (but silent in pictures preview)

And yes - battery sucks here: 25 min test photo session in my garden take around 30% of it, so good half a day of tourist shooting will definitely need 2-3 of them
