Thanks but I'm not sure why you suggest the GF7 over the GX7 - my thinking is firstly aesthetical in that I imagine the 20mm would look clumsy on small body like a GF7.

Also no IS? hence E-P5 or GX7 - not sure about GX80 as I only do jpeg and some on here do not report kindly on GX80 jpeg output

It certainly looks and feels clumsy on my GM1. Mine lives on a GX85, now GX9. Balances well, slow focus, lovely render.

I bet the 14mm is a winner on the gm1/5, about as small as lenses (with AF) get

Yes but I can’t see me unmounting my PL15 for the sake of a little smaller. Not that I haven’t been tempted.

I can understand that, the 15mm seems like an all round winner imo.

My silver 20mm F/1.7 II looks great (and works a treat) on my PEN-F:

GX9 for me, but they're all good.

Just a few considerations among many, and not even necessarily important ones, but here ya go: I own a GX7, GX85, and GX9, and I feel the GX7's grip is the best. Resolution got slightly but visibly better with each new model (no AA filter on the GX85, 20MP on the GX9). EVF color accuracy got better on each new model. I shot a ton of images with three GX7s and still love the two I haven't yet sold, but the GX9 is a no-brainer for my uses, mainly for the extra crispness and the ability to set a minimum shutter speed when using auto ISO (handy with zooms). FWIW, I shoot RAW exclusively, and I sometimes make 24" prints.

Good evening. After a day of deliberation I have bought a new E-PL8 body and want to thank you all so much for the wonderful responses.

Once the body arrives I shall post some first shots.

Put yourself in my shoes - You've read great things about the 20mm Panasonic lens and love the idea of great IQ with a compact body - so you're browsing eBay when you see a 20mm 1.7 MK II , make an offer which is then accepted - problem is you don't have a mft body.

Which inexpensive compact body would you buy - I'm looking at E-P5 vs GX7 - but other suggestions would be welcome

It really depends on what you mean by inexpensive. Less than $200, $500, $1000?

KEH has been around forever and currently have:

Olympus E-M10ii for $278 (16 MegaPixel)

and

Olympus E-PL2 for $82 (12 MegaPixel)

If you have a moderate amount of money to spend then I would look at the E-M10iv.  It's a terrific 20MP camera.  It costs in the $600 range new.

Re: Panasonic 20mm 1.7 II - which body?

Hi Don and Jeff, I'm new to MFT by way of serendipity - last month I bought a new Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III that was a full 40% off. Too good to ignore.

About two weeks later I got lucky again by purchasing a compatible new Panasonic 25mm prime lens for $48 from a well known retailer that was clearing out their photographic section of all stock.

Some things seem meant to be

Yes, do consider the M10 Mark 3 or 4, Don.

Also, Don - the 20mm lens (40mm equiv), can you tell me why this focal length appealed to you? Someone here has a Sigma 30mm (60mm equiv) as well for their MFT camera, which got me wondering.

Thanks.
