BG Stand For Seemless

Looking for semi portable stand that can handle seemless paper. Will be for full length and headshots. Doesnt really need to be wider than for like groups of 3, maybe 4. Ideal would be if it could extend for groups but be able to be smaller. I may just get something that can handle individuals for now, depending on cost differences. Looking at Savage portastand, but that will be limiting for groups.

1) Needs to be somewhat portable

2) Needs to be sturdy and safe!!

3) cost effectiveness a plus

4) adjustable widths a plus

All the bg stands I see on BH etc doesnt really specify what it can safely be used for.

I used an SP systems portable stand. Using three sections to 10ft wide. Used with a white paper roll for years without a hitch. Breaks down in about 10 minutes into a nice carrying case. (just hang on to the Allen wrench)

This looks to be the same stand I use, though mine is near 20 years old so I cannot guaranty this is the same quality. It amounts to a pair of fairly solid light stands and a four-section crossbar --

You can  use 2, 3 or all four of the crossbar sections depending on the width of your seamless.

There are other brands that are equally good, I'm sure. I would look for a set that has a normal light stand spigot on the stands for a little extra versatility.

One caution -- do not leave seamless on this type of stand when not in use. It will sag and create permanent ripples in the paper. Take it down and if possible store standing on end.

I gave up on dedicated background systems years ago, I simply use two C Stands w/Hollywood arms and a couple set weights. I use C Stands much more than seamless support so I always have a few on set even if I'm on location.

I'm the same way in part: two MSE Beefy Baby light stands. I do use the Manfrotto telescoping crossbar that drops over the baby pins. Add a few pony clamps and this b/g rig is secure, effective, and portable enough.

Was actually looking at similar solution. Thinking of the Flashpoint cstand/grip arm. Was worried bc the grip arms are only 40"ish but I guess they dont have to come together. Def much heavier than the porta stand option though.
