The touchscreen looks massive. So to the viewfinder.

Cool to see, no real surprises. I like that they've finally put in a photo/video hard switch like they should've in the other cameras, and that viewfinder looks absolutely colossal.

Looks promising

The pictures answer some of the questions I had and it is good news as it appears to have controls that combine the best of the 1DX line and the R5/6.  Has the awesome thumb AF control built into the AF-ON nub like the 1DX3 and has the upper rear dial for exposure mode control like the R, R5, R6.

I'm already assuming Canon's take on BSI will be a great implementation with their world class colors and AF combined with faster readout and better DR even than the R5.

Still hoping the sensor is 45-50MP.

Possibly to help with (or a consequence of) the eye control AF?

Thanks for pointing that out, I was about to write the same. The inclusion of the AF-ON Smart Controller seems like a good idea (I've read good things about it, but have yet to get my hands on a 1DX III to test it out).

Overall the controls layout is very reminiscent of the 1DX Mark III, which is definitely a good thing.

Agreed. The obvious exception being the dial on the top to allow exposure control like the R5. This is an excellent departure from the 1DX model which uses buttons. It actually looks like maybe you can adjust exposure modes using either method in the R3 body.

It should match or exceed the A1; I’d expect 45MP, or greater. I also assume a Canon CFA.

Agreed about the EVF being colossal. I may reconsider my R5 plans...

It seems the Eye-AF...

...requires a huge EVF eyecup

this will be my last camera for the rest of my natural life (retired). glad i waited and by passed R5. but still waiting for the rest of spec. if it doesn't have at least 30-40pixle rez, i'll opt for R5. we'll see.

Showing great promise. Currently shooting both Sony (A7R IV and A9) and Canon (after returning with the EOS R and then the R5). Was debating on jumping in on the A1 but thankfully Canon leaked the R3 soon enough while I debated if it was worth $6500.
So now two good things have happened. I saving money and delaying the expense while I sit very tight and wait to see what the R3 really is. A9 had me sell my 1Dx, now may EOS R3 will return the favor to my A9.

Now my rant. Can we get some more practical L series primes? Very impressed with my collection of GM primes Sony has pushed out. Should not have to spend $2300 to $2700 on each L prime and have everyone weight in at 950 gm and up.

Or just because a huge viewfinder is a big selling point for pro cameras.

you have some outstanding bird photos on your flicker site, Gary. were those shots all taken in Texas? i know you guys have an excellent bird migration down in Texas. would love to come down in Texas during bird migration. up here in Midwest, we have a boring few species that migrate during some cold mornings that isn't worth the bother to go out early in the morning and get frozen besides, we only have a very limited species of birds here that are around all year that gets old real fast.

happy zooming.
