A "New" A1
5

I haven't really been looking to get one of these but the price was right. When it arrived I discovered that it is in excellent condition and already has the last firmware update. Plus, it came with a 4GB CF card and a LowePro case. Sadly, it doesn't have the lens shade. It works perfectly.

Some nice first shots , your lucky to find one with a working sensor .

I managed to get one myself some years back , but the last time I went to use it the sensor had gone bad ...

if your looking for another hood all of these type of cameras ( 7,7i,7hi,A1,A2,A200 )use the same hood , just silver or black .

You often see them just listed as a "Minolta GT 7.2-50.8 hood/shade" as some people come across them and don't know what there for so just list them as that .

Re: A "New" A1

The sensor was my concern when I bought it. Maybe it went bad and the original owner had it sent in. That also might be why the firmware update was already on it. No way to tell what the story is, I guess.

I checked and I have 2 silver shades and one black non-OEM shade. They run about $10 used here in the states.

nice colors! it's too bad your sensor still suffer the dreaded vertical line" issue. but at least it's not super noticeable and should be easy to fix in post.

Yes, the Minolta look is very nice.

I hadn't seen the vertical you mentioned. I have a fairly large monitor and very rarely view my images at 100%. Very small line, indeed. And.....the line is not on all the images. So I guess I'm ok for now.

Thanks for pointing out the line, I never would have seen it myself.

The one I has a long time ago started having a line, then another, then another, and suddenly the sensor produced only garbage

Hi,

I recall KM issued a notice back in the day for Dimage A1 sensor repair/replacement. I had mine replaced before it showed signs of failing and so far it's still working fine. I use to use the A1 heavily during my travels along with the vertical grip. I think the Sony RX10 series of cameras are the modern incarnation.

Re: A "New" A1

I have a Dimage 5; funny to think it cost well north of $1K.

Always like the A models.

The (Konica) Minolta G600  was a pretty good compact for its day.

I still when both the Dimage 5 and 7 were launched. I was very impressed with the specs in comparison with my Canon G1. Unfortunately the battery life on the D7 was a nightmare. I assume the D5 had similar issues. The firmware updates helped to improve some issues. The last time I shot with the D7 I used it mainly for infrared photography. Looking back over my D7 photos recently I'm still impressed with the photos although 5mp looks so tiny now.

The only thing i have left of my A1 is the orig. lens cap and  an old 49 mm quantaray skylight filter thats been rolling around in my junk drawer. If anyone needs one give a yell.
