Just after some opinions or other options I might not have considered. Currently have the above camera plus 15-45 and 22 lens combo.
Looking at my photos from my last trip I kept 98 photos from the 15-45;
41 of those between 15-24, most at 15mm
11 of those at 28mm
12 of those at 35mm
34 of those at 45mm
If I want to upgrade my 15-45, what lenses should I look at? I'm probably only looking to travel with 2 or 3 lenses maximum, ideally 2.
With most of my photos at 15mm, it makes sense to get the 11-22mm as that would be a good upgrade and I can then go wider when required.
My thinking was then to pair that with either;
EF-M 32mm F1.4 - Looks great and would have covered off those at 28mm and 35mm
Sigma 56mm F1.4 - Looks great, to cover off those taken at 45mm.
EF 50mm F1.8 and adapter - Cheaper alternative to Sigma
EF 40mm F2.8 and adapter - Cheap and covers the 35mm and 45mm
I normally photograph landscapes/ocean/beach and city scenes, hence the 11-22mm, but unsure what to pair that with.
Am I missing anything? I think my preferred option is 11-22+32, but that is an expensive combination, hence looking for alternatives.
I agree with loannisz, you need bigger sample size to really know what kind of focal lenght you prefer.
Also have in mind that it may all change depending on the situation. When I first got into M system, I would take with me adapted Sigma 17-50 f2.8 for travel. It was bulky and kind of ridiculous on small M body but did the job well, I could use it both outside and indors, and in the evening if there is enough of street lights. I had 22mm pancake with me in case I need it. I found out I am taking most of my photos wide so I got 11-22 guided by the similar conclusion you have. Next trip ended with me feeling I have missed some photos. In practice, I hate to change lenses all the time so I ended up with only wide photos during the day and all photos in the evening were 22mm pancake. So then I got m3 and next trip I went with two bodies and two different lenses, and it was kind of ok as a solution, as M system is pretty small. But this worked for me only when traveling, I found out that I am rarely using 11-22 in any other situation.
Also I have found out that if I have zoom lens on, I may, for example zoom from 32 to 50mm for a single photo but when there are two separate lenses, I will simply keep on 32 mm on all the time. So results of analising focal lenght of your zoom lens photos may not actually translate to what focal lengths will you keep on your camera when it's not just one lens. You may think that some focal length can be useful to you and find out that if you have to change lenses this one lens ends up unused most of the time.
My personal conclusion was that for M, adapted 2.8 zoom is necessary for me, even if it is bulky, and if I am in the mood and traveling, I may take second body with something wide. I ended up using long focal lenghts rarely, only when I intentionally go to take some portrait photos. 22mm is always a no brainer as it is small, and in the evening I used to take just a camera with a pancake. I have sigma 32mm for Sony, and always felt it is a bit narrow f.lenght for walk around and social situations - I would easily pay twice the price to have cannon 22mm on a sony mount So I am considering Viltrox 23mm 1.4 right now.
So in your situation, I would maybe go with 11-22 + 32 if you need something longer, and with a 22mm in the bag. But the thing is, if I was using only one body, with this combination I would be back from a trip without any 32mm photos.
Hope that any of this helps!
