What about the Canon PowerShot SX540?
2

Hello photographers,

I am just 12 years old, yet I have a big talent for photography. I started out with just my mother's phone as my camera, but now I'm sure it's time to take a step forward.

I decided to buy a camera made by the Canon brand, and have decided on the Canon SX540. I'm looking for places to purchase it from, and I've narrowed them down to either Best Buy or Amazon. And I've decided Amazon because I have more accessory options. But now I kind have my doubts about the Canon SX540. Is it too advanced for me? What if it's not worth my money. I've searched for advice on Google, but didn't find much. So I thought that for sure that I'd get good advice from actual photographers.

Please give me your experience, advice, expectations, etc. Thank you!

Your posting here is well-written, so I’d have to think that it will *not* be too much for you if you really get into photography. It’s a fun camera but it’s the kind that you might grow out of in a few years. It seems like a very good value for the money.

If you want to save a little money, consider the Canon US online outlet: https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/refurbished-powershot-sx540-hs

Ut is refurbished but comes with a one year warranty.

You’re welcome, and feel free to come back and ask more questions.

As I mentioned before, that camera ought to be fun, and it can do a lot, but by no means is it too complex for most. The most important feature is the long zoom lens, so you can get distant detail impossible to capture with a smartphone.

That camera ought to do well in full sunlight, but don’t expect to get good results in dim light unless you use a tripod, but with a tripod and good camera settings, you should be able to get excellent results.

I also mentioned that you may quickly outgrow that camera. Most of us here use interchangeable lens cameras, with large sensors and fast lenses to capture more light, but those tend to be expensive, and they are difficult to use well.

Okay, Mr. Abeln. Thank you for your advice.

I have one more question for you that I hope you will be able to answer: Which do you think is better, the Canon SX540 or the Canon SX420?

I hope that I haven't asked you a question you can't answer.

The specs on the SX540 appear better. It's a bit more expensive as well.
