Walk around with Olympus C5060 in 2021
6

Just got this camera as a bundle sell with Olympus E-500

I was kind of impressed by the smooth color and good detail from the SOOC jpeg.

My copy was a little bit prone to flare, hope I can get it solved and resulted in more "crystal" photos.

Nice! Proof that the C-5060 is still a very useful camera. I still use mine (and my C-7070s as well). I have made great looking 16x20 prints with my 5060 files.

Get an adapter "tube" 48.5mm to 52mm off eBay and a Nikon HN-3 metal shade. That will help with the flare. I also use an Olympus 40.5mm UVF-40.5 UV filter.

A B-HLD20 "battery grip" will hold two batteries and provides a better vertical grip. They pop up on eBay every now and then. White "4 contact" batteries for the E-5 will work in the 5060 but the old black charger will NOT charge the newer white batteries.

The factory battery that came with my C-5060 that I bought new in 2004 is still working fine! Amazing.

The largest size cards that the 5060 will take are 2GB. *Some* early 4gb CF cards *may* work in the 5060 but I gave up on them. The largest XD cards made were 2 GB. I put a 2GB CF and a 2 GB XD card in mine and never worry about space - use SHQ resolution. Used 2GB XD cards sell for around $30 here in the USA.

Good luck with your new found classic.

I have 2 C5060. Its photos are less colourful than C750. I seldom use them.

Yes it's a little bit flat compared to mine C4040, but when the light is right it still delivers.
Beside the manual/UI and control homologs to E300/E500 is really give it a special feeling even just power-on and switch around.
The only thing I feel a bit off is the long min AF distance and poor macro-AF.

It had a big brother...

Just found some old C7070WZ images on an old hard drive. They can still cut it.

HMS Warrior and the old Portsmouth dockyard.

This is the point I always make.  Just because there are newer cameras out there, does not make what people were using before obsolete.  Great shots people.

Well after read all the reviews, I can't help but find myself a C5050 (for like 11 USD).

The ISO 64, F1.8 lens and seems slightly better IQ than C5060 I just have to try.

With default setting the color isn't feel much difference (slightly more vivid?) than C5060 but the IQ is quite solid. It gives lots of details and the pics reminds you exactly the scenes you shot them.

Gonna play a bit with saturation/contrast and see how it goes compared to C5060

Very nice!!! I have a C5050 and it's a nice pocket camera. I always use a 2GB CF card & SHQ 2560 x 1920 resolution. The 2GB card will get you 557 images; plenty for an afternoon's shooting. I think that 2GB FAT is the largest card the C5050 can take; it doesn't recognize FAT32 & will format a 4GB card to 2GB FAT.

I tend to use ISO 100 most as I will carry it with a film camera with HP-5 & a Yellow filter that I expose at EI 100. Outside and the C5050 is only camera with me I will use ISO 64.

Try to find the Olympus 41-43 filter "tube" for it. It adapts 43mm filters and lens shade for the C5050. I have the Olympus 41-43mm "tube" adapter and keep a 43mm UV filter & metal shade on mine. Here's one on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/233877274610?hash=item36742bfff2:g:2OMAAOSw~b5gFGpw

I paid $15 for mine - just keep watching eBay for one at a reasonable price.

Also, pick up an Olympus FL-20 flash for it.  Small, 2 AA batteries, works well. I have ended up with 3 of them.

Good luck & keep shooting the C5050!

What is the best CXXX camera? Which one gives the most bang for buck?

IMHO that would be the C7070 (I have 3 of them).  Having said that, the C5060 gives the best bang for the buck.  I still take mine out for a spin every now and then.

I think 7070/8080 are the best ones but I’d go for the 5mp ones (5050/5060) for cheaper price/bigger pixel.

I got both at similar price (~15 USD) and I think they have different attractive points (f1.8 vs next gen speed).

It’s good fun to have both!

True, the other f1.8 series (2040/3040) are also kinda appealing.

Maybe gonna collect them as well lol.

The old SuperCCD Fuji compact cameras are also very attractive. But the 4800/6800 are bit expensive thought.

I never used a C2040/3040.  I found a C3040 on the 'bay for $15 shipped.  I will give it a spin.  I hope it works .

A short date with my 5060

Took my C5060 for a spin today
My copy is sensitive to the lighting, too strong or too weak lower the contract significantly and makes the output image flat.

I received the C-3040 Zoom Saturday in the mail.  I put 4 new AA batteries in it and bang! It works!!!.  Put a 128mb Smart Media card in it and all is good.  I took a couple of test shots with it inside my office and by using an Olympus USB card was able to get the images off the SM card and into my Win10 computer.

Not sure when I will have time to go outside and take some walk around photos but when I do I will post them here.
