App for importing images from card reader to phone

Anyone have any recommendations for an app that will read image files from a card reader or DSLR directly when attached to a smartphone?

I'm currently using USB Media Explorer but it's a little inconsistent in working and not very easy to select which images to import. I'd like to be able to easily select by date for example.  Can't seem to see any progress information from it either.

Your phones own file / image manager should be able to do it .

live never needed to download an app weather Samsung, huawei or Apple even.

You might look at X-plore (Lonely Cat) - it's a free dual pane file manager that may take some getting used to - but does this:

(It's also very good at displaying the folder systems of a number of cloud storage services.)

Solid Explorer apparently also does it, a paid app though.

I agree! X-plore is an *excellent* file manager, but does take some getting used to and can feel a little "clunky." But if you can get used to that, it will do LOTS of things. It has lots of settings that I'm still finding, even though I've used it extensively for years. It's my go-to file manager on my Chromebook, and I have it on my Samsung phone as well.

To select images in a range, you have to click to expand a folder, then when all the files list individually, click the checkmark beside first one you want, and then scroll to the last file you want and long-press its checkmark. Everything in the middle will be selected.

I suggest downloading it and playing around with it to get used to how it works. Maybe put a bunch of stuff on a flash drive, or make some duplicate folders on your phone and play with them, because at first, I was often doing some things I didn't intend to do.

What I really like about the file explorer for my Chromebook (which takes Android apps) is that it recognizes duplicate files and asks you, like any good file manager should, whether you want to re-write over them, skip them, make another copy etc. But, the Chromebook default file manager will ALWAYS just copy with a (1) at the end if you're copying something that already exists in the destination folder. X-plore also allows you to batch rename, with some sophisticated options, and a bunch of other handy stuff. It's a very good file manager to have for those times when you want to do something a little fancier than your phone (and, in my case, Chromebook) will do with your default file manager.

Very much agree, I install it Day 1 on new Androids and never look at the preinstalled file managers.  It's very capable, but at the same time each of the two panes and that central icon bar are very configurable to hide what's not wanted and to re-order icons, so don't have to be constantly confronted with unused or rarely used functions.

Many thanks for the recommendations.  I've loaded X-plore and it looks promising.  Quite versatile and I need some time to play and configure it.  The other features such as FTP and SSH are also of interest.

Thanks again.

Re: App for importing images from card reader to phone

A bit of time has gone by since first posting but thought I'd provide and update.

I played with X-plore for a while and its very flexible but perhaps too much so for what I want.   However, I came across  Cx File Explorer which is much easier to use and has a cleaner interface in my opinion.

But for some reason or other my original app USB Media Explorer has now become more stable - I don't recall updating it - and it will work either with a card reader or directly to my Canon 7D.  Not only that I've figured out how to select a range of photos.  So this is now my default app for downloading camera images to the phone or tablet.

For any other file management its Cx File Explorer.

Thanks though for your recommendations.

Good you found one you're comfortable with. As I wrote, I've simplified X-plore's central toolbar to where features I don't use are hidden, I like dual pane interface and have used it long enough that anything else would be a nuisance to learn. Cx looks clean and has a great Play Store rating.
