Most of the cameras have noise reduction turned off, but some Pentax cameras have forced noise reduction. Why they are listed as equals in that table? At least put an asterisk mark next to them or something.

Interesting idea.
On the charts there are symbols to indicate things like noise reduction but the tables doesn't take this into account.
I'll think about this.

When do you qualify it as noise reduction?

...

I think I've covered this multiple times elsewhere. But hear goes ...

There are ways to detect nearest neighbor signal processing in the firmware.
(This is distinct from various noise reduction and signal shaping done in hardware.)
The chief tool hear is 2D Fourier Transforms.

I deem that signal processing as noise reduction when there is a significant drop in noise.
I cross check against an energy spectrum analysis.

Re: Are these comparisons fair anymore?

There was an informative article on dp couple years back showing two stage burnt in nr on modern cameras, all at that time kicking in around iso400. I will try to find it and link. Pentax was not the first or only one by any means.

No .. that is something else. Here this shows an unprecedented level of noise removal. Nothing comparable to any other camera. It's not just NR on/off it's also about how much and at what ISO.. and also about whether this is by increasing the gain of the sensor or it's done after A/D conversion.
