T2i With Numbers Jumbled at Bottom of Viewfinder
1

I have a T2i (550) that hasn't been used in a couple (about 2 years) of years. Occasionally my granddaughter uses it.

Yesterday I was playing with it and noticed when I look in the viewfinder the numbers at the bottom and mostly on the left do not show properly.

The back screen appears to show everything fine and it takes pictures fine.

I really don't want to clear all camera settings but will if anybody has fixed the problem doing that.

Any ideas?

Canon EOS 550D (EOS Rebel T2i / EOS Kiss X4)

I reset all settings and it didn't change anything.

When not in use I remove the battery from my cameras. So there hasn't been a battery in for a year or two.

I have a T2i as well and the info in the VF shows up perfectly. I shoot mine fairly often and keep the battery in the camera.

Since you seldom use yours perhaps cleaning the electrical contacts on both the lens and lens mount might help.

Have you tried adjusting the dioptric wheel on the right hand side of the OVF ?

Good try but it's not the dioptric wheel. I had adjusted that and it made not difference.

I like the idea of cleaning the contacts but I won't be able to do it.

I sent the camera and lenses across the country to my granddaughter who is there for a little while.

Too bad, thought there was a remote chance that it had been overlooked.

Most likely to be bad connections in the viewfinder display, not something you can fix yourself.

Are they in the correct location, or do they look like they are more to the left and bottom than they used to be?  Maybe the camera was dropped or bumped hard.  This can move the overlay in the viewfinder.  It could be a bad connection to the overlay as has been mentioned, or it just failing in general.
