Hi everyone a few images from around the yard today with the 7d and Sony 100 f2.8 macro and the Sony 50mm f1.4.

And a blast from the past, on this day in 2006...

It's still a fun camera to use today.

Regards.

Thanks Joseph and Bill, the 7d is not the latest or greatest but it's fun to use every now and then.

It " IS " fun to use.... It's not an everyday camera, for sure but its always nice to see what use to be a fantastic camera. The output still puts a smile on my face.

HI Bill, its a bit like an old steam engine, great to see puffing through the country side, not to get you to work everyday :-)

Stephen.

Maybe the Minolta x700 would be the steam engine. Not the 7D.
I don't see any reason why the 7D couldn't be an every day camera: her controls and handling are still the best you can find, she is quite light, AF is fast and reliable enough for everyday subjects, you can print 8x10 or even 13x18 if the photo is technically super good. Hell, with some postprocessing and upscaling in topaz GP, I could print 20x30 and no one could tell.

Her only "downsides" are 6MP, no crop, a DR a bit low forcing you to expose correctly, and slow frame rate.
And of course the fact she's an old camera and eventually will die sooner or later.
Keep everything as is in the 7D, and just swap the 6Mp sensor for a 12 or 16Mp sensor with 5fps. I'd buy such a camera. (No the sony a700 and other in this lineup don't do that, close but not close enough)

I shoot landscape, closeup, abstract, street, architecture, macro: not everyday, but at least once a week with the 7D. And absolutely no one can tell what print was shot with her or any other camera.
I don't shoot wildlife with the 7D only because my white 400mm is dead for years and I never replaced it.

It's just some glass, some silicon and magnesium. It isn't a religion.

Absolutely stunning, sharp, beautiful, photographs. They put a smile on my face. The 7d can indeed be an every day camera. but we have become spoiled with upgraded cameras.. a good photographer can take an award winning photograph with a pinhole camera. However, a pinhole camera has limitations as to when a photographer can take an award winning shot. More considerations are in play with a 20 year old camera. That is where the composition and lighting are ideally available.

I'm hardly a photographer and definitely not a purist. I enjoy the final output as much as the calculations in achieving the shot. I dont pixel peep and for me, it more about the captured memory than it is about the photographic excellence.
