Advice for my Fuji Lineup

I'm an enthusiast/hobbyist who loves to document family memories including doing portraits of my wife and daughter. But doing some simple paid portraits/events come into mind sometimes. With that in mind, I would like to ask for some advise to balance out my lineup for versatility. My current gears:

X-T30

35mm f1.4 (my favorite and love it for portraits)

23mm f2

X100T (only got it because of the steal price)

Now I have two 23mm fov, so I'm thinking of exchanging the 23mm f2 with the 60mm macro for tighter portraits. Is this a good idea given that they say the 60 is good for portraits but the slow AF and f2.4 is a deal breaker when douing portraits/events? Should I consider the 50-230mm which is also within the price range? Should I consider 3rd party lenses like samyang?

Any advise will be highly appreciated.

For portrait you could also consider the 50mm f2 (Fuji) which is remarkable with a very fast AF See reviews :

I second the 50 f2. Much faster AF, and you can pair it with a macro extension tube for closeup shots.

Thanks for the references, will surely read it. But what I read some from the internet, 50mm is very near the 35mm fov, rendering it redundant, so they are advicing getting 56 or greater if you already have the 35.

I have the MCEX-11, so I'm quite interested on your advice. They say 50 is sharper than the 23 and 35 f2, so I think it would really be good at (semi)macro shots.

I have the 35mm and the 50mm f2, and the quality, speed and bokeh of the 50mm, plus field of view for head shots, make it a stellar option.

Re: Advice for my Fuji Lineup

If you aren't in a rush wait for the Sigma 56mm f1.4 which might be released this year. No aperture ring, but will focus far faster than the 60mm for less money. Will almost certainly be sharper than the Fuji 60mm and 50mm too. Or get one of those used in the meantime.

It will be worth the wait. Check out reviews where it destroys the Viltrox 56mm f1.4 on Sony. Won't have all the issues that come with Viltrox lenses, often.

Will certainly look into this. Thank you!

Re: Advice for my Fuji Lineup

You might ask yourself what is it with your XT30+35/1.4 that makes it your favorite. If it’s the render of the 35 then I’d suggest the 60. It is a superb lens and certainly quick enough for portraits (has been since the E2 with updated firmware). Set the focus limiter to exclude macro distances.

What experience do you have in shooting events? Slow - AF lenses and slow aperture zooms are not what I would think as appropriate.

Re: Advice for my Fuji Lineup

As others have mentioned, the 50/2 is excellent for portraits. Very good wide open and enough bokeh. Splendid really. I also have the viltrox 56 1.4 which is quite good as well, i like it wide open, but the fuji 50/2 is better at 2 and much more compact, though of course a bit closer to your 35.
the 50/2 is really wonderful, one of fuji’s best options.

Re: Advice for my Fuji Lineup

While I absolutely love the 60/2.4 and you can use it for portraits, there are several dedicated portrait lenses that are better than it.

Cheapest option would be the 50/2 but if it was me I would spend a bit more and pick up a good used copy of either the 56/1.2 or the 90/2.

Basically I only did it once on a very low light venue. 35 f1.4 was fine as no one was moving to fast. But I think I need a faster AF lens as well to complement it.

Yeah, I’m really close to buying one right now for $230, used only once. But I’m worried that the FL is too close to my 35 that it will not be used.
