A serious issue of Xt-3 firmware 4.0 update

Hi all,

I am a Xt-3 user since 2 years. After the firmware update on my camera, there are some straight lines introduced occasionally in the footages. The straight lines will be shown when I tried to tweak the setting in Premiere and Resolve(15,16,17) on both mac and windows platform. To be more precisely described, when I tweak the curves of HUE vs Luma, I pull the red and yellow channel down, the vertical straight lines will appear. I attached a screenshot via my dropbox, you can see what I have done with the curve then.

Strangely, not all footages have this issue. I did a test with my camera and the XF18-55mm f2.8-4 kit lens, the lines will be introduced ONLY when the footage is shot with:

4K (UHD/DCI), ISO 1600 or above, Lens aperture f2.8, F-log

The lines will NOT be shown if the ISO is below 1600, Lens aperture in f3.2 or smaller, shot in Full HD in all kinds of camera/lens settings

A quick note: I discovered this issue firstly in Premiere when I was trying to color grade some footages. I thought it was the problem of the decoder in Premiere on windows, then I switch to Resolve on mac. The result is the same, but you will not see the lines with one single node. Because the curve in Resolve behaves much more gentle than Premiere, therefore it took multiple nodes with the same curve tweaking to introduce those lines in the footage. I have attached the screenshot of Resolve so you understand what I mean.

I have attached also an original footage shot on my camera, maybe some of you are interested to have a look and do some tweaks in premiere? The footage is set at:

4K UHD, ISO 1600/1250, Lens aperture f2.8/3.2, F-log, All-I, H.265

I exported the footage to "lines.mp4"(see attached). You can see the lines disappear because the ISO and lens aperture has been changed.

I am not sure if this only happen on Xt-3, or even Xt-4 as well. I have already spoke to the CS of Fujifilm via email with some sample footages, but they insist that they don't see the issue at all. It will be great if any Xt-3 users can also do a quick test with their camera.

Interesting. For whatever that is worth, it might be good marking those lines somehow (encircling them in red, for example), so people have a better idea where to look at - they`re visible for sure, but kind of thin as well, and if not viewed at 100% (or if one`s eyesight is not that good) they might go unnoticed.

Well, if Fuji service center insisted they didn`t see the issue (and we exclude lying, lol), I guess not everyone can see the lines, thus my advice to mark them somehow, making it more obvious where to look at (though I agree it seemed rather obvious to me, too)

I`m not much into video editing these days so I can`t really test with my X-T3 (unless there`s some free and easy app to replicate your flow), but I can provide you with a test footage to give it a go yourself, if interested?

Here`s a short clip I`ve made, trying to replicate your settings.

Filmed with X-T3 + XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0, 4K 16:9, 25P, 400Mbps, 1/50, f/2.8-3.2, ISO 1600-1250, ALL-I, F-Log, file straight out of camera.

> DOWNLOAD[1], 1.3 GB (WeTransfer, expires in 7 days)

It starts with f/2.8 and ISO 1600, aperture gets changed to f/3.2, then back to f/2.8, ISO gets changed to 1250, then back to 1600. Each setting lasts about 5 seconds, for a total of 28 seconds.

Yep, same thing, and yes, I`m past firmware 4.0, too (on latest Ver.4.10 at the moment).

I`m curious what`s the cause here... Now, I could somewhat understand it if ISO 1600+ would have the problem at all cases - but as _decreasing_ aperture makes the issue go away, too (so even less light falls on the sensor, and even with ISO values of 1600 and above), it does seem as some software glitch, and especially if you`re sure it wasn`t there pre Ver.4.0.

It`s worth getting Fuji more involved - if you continue your communication with them, feel free to use my footage as an additional example as well.

I'm not seeing it.

I recorded with then settings you posted, same lens and adjustment in Resolve.

Ah my bad, yes after adding x5 curves...I see the lines lol.

I'm not sure this affects normal color grading though.

Edit: Here's a screenshot. At this point the colors are messed up. Yellow shows up as black.

Well now I'll be forever wondering if my footage has lines now lol thanks.
