This month with your Nikon 1 - April 2021

Welcome to another monthly thread. Feel free to share your work either here or through individual threads on the forum, whatever you are more comfortable with.

The rules are simple:

  • Add your contribution by responding to this first message in this topic.
  • Change the subject of your message, then embed your image into the reply with whatever you’d like to say about it.
  • If you want criticism/critique (C&C) or technique feedback, say so. It’s generally assumed that you want general feedback, but direct requests make it clearer.

The title of the thread shouldn't discourage you from posting older pictures. Feel free to post anything that you found again in your archives or that you are currently working on.

Taken with my V2 and Sigma 100-400. Cropped a fair amount. Topaz DeNoise Ai de-noising and sharpening make results respectable.

Taken on overcast day while fishing on a lava flow reef with Nikon 1 Aw-1 and 11-27.5mm UV zoom lens. I find the Nikon 1 files make some excellent B&W conversions.

Two from Today 4/11/2021

Taken today perhaps 50 yards from our house. A sidewalk "brand" on a section of the walk I usually never see, and a flower growing in the bottom of a shaded drainage just down from the sidewalk. V3 and 10-100 non PD for both.

Handheld. Raw. Converted and finished in Photoshop.

Had to try my new V2 with my lovely 58mm 1.4G

A local Tokyo backstreet (name on sign doctored).

I love the 18.5mm 2.8 close up ability. Really remarkable.

Shochu on the rocks

Closeup of said Shochu... Torafu Kirishima... My favourite.

I like all of these, and I'm glad to see someone new posting in this forum. I enjoy seeing the variety of locations and getting a glimpse into a culture I doubt I will ever experience first hand. I look forward to seeing more in. the future.

Unusual scene at what was once one the busiest Canada-US border crossings. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic it has been closed to most travelers since April 2020. Easter long weekend here would otherwise be normally jammed with cars lined up for hours to cross this border.

Looking south towards the US border crossing into Washington State

But the strong desire to physically connect with loved ones there are Canadians, Americans meeting up in tents at one corner of the Peach Arch Park that remains open as it is operated by Washington State.

Washington State portion of Peace Arch Park at Zero Avenue. The ditch is the 49N parallel which marks the border. There are Canadian Mounties posted along this section of road.

Very nice image with excellent color and detail. What lens was used? How did you process this to keep the noise under control?

Hi RichDitch,

Thank you, took it with the v2 and the Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S, use topaz denoise.

This lens does not have VR but it is a very sharp prime and it does let you have a full stop of light at F4.

Re: pacific swallow perched in drizzle (Hirundo tahitica)

Thanks for the details.

I also have the AF-S 300/4, but in traditional black. I'ver never seen one before in the shade of gray! I agree about the sharpness and the extra stop, and I sometimes use mine with a V2 or V3 for the backyard birds when I need the extra stop. But for me it is best on a solid tripod, and I'd love to upgrade it to the latest compact lighter weight VR version so I could use it more like the 70-300.

Yep, agreed ! I have been wanting to get the cx 70-300 myself for the flexibility and weight. Holding the urge for now

Stunning shots, all three! Those kingfishers we had in our garden in Hua-hin! The smyrnensis is the best shot of the three!

I think I passed through that border crossing, some years back, on our way to Penticton!

The Moon (obviously)

Just went out into the street and took this quick shot.

Non Stacked, single exposure, SDR.
Tripod mounted... Using the Nikon 200-500 on the V3 via the FT1 adapter.

Mild contrast enhancement and cropping in DXO 4.
Versatile little camera.
