In the hypothetical scenario that Canon would go after other Camera makers markets , which camera would you want to buy ?

So A Canon X100 model, essentially?   Although I think the Canonet models had 40 and 45mm  focal length vs X100 at 35mm.

That is a hard question... it's like going to the mall and window shopping at KOP.

if canon to introduce a MF camera, i don't think they will recoup their return on investment because of very small demand by professionals. if in fact there was enough demand for such thing, canon would have introduced one long time ago. this is not time to venture into unknown, as canon already knows that.

A tiny but fast (f/1.7) built-in 35-40mm is fine.  It has to be full frame, however.  It also needs to be stupidly simple to operate the Av, Tv, and ISO via dials.  It can have auto modes, as the original Canonet that I had had aperture priority auto and metering needle (histogram or waveform).  AF should be similar to a R5/R6 with zebra/peaking/focus guide in the manual mode.

If I wanted an RX-1, I’d get an RX-1 instead of waiting for Canon to make one just like it. Ditto for GR. These cameras are one-off purchases; we wouldn’t be asked to commit to a system, so it wouldn’t be a big deal to switch vendors.

The options given don't pertain to me but I've considered a Hasselblad X1D for the leaf shutter since I do a lot of flash photography in full sunlight. Although I'd like to think its AF would be enough for me since I mainly shoot portraits, I know it would annoy me. Even if Canon made something similar I don't think I'd buy it since it would mean changing my entire setup.

I agree with you on the MF camera aspect . But think of a Canon version of the Contax G system . Compact AF primes . And yes , Canon has been venturing into the unknown lately . I suppose you've seen those cameras Canon got to crowdfund in it's home turf , Japan . Those cameras made sense for some buyers in Japan , enough people to pay for the initial batch .

A canon version of the RP. As canon already has that camera there is no need for another version.  And as I already own the original version  I don't have to want it or want to have it.  Lol.

Have you ever wondered the logic behind Canon's M mount system . It's about Canon's home turf , Japan . If you've seen the BCN reports about camera sales in Japan , M 4/3 sells well in Japan , ditto for the M mount system . When I'm taking photos outside , and I see single Japanese women , they're usually using M 4/3 or a Canon M mount camera . I believe what attracts single Japanese and Asian women to M4/3 and the M mount , is it's small size , the portability . There are no many lenses for the M mount because Japanese Women don't want them . And why would Canon build the M mount system just for those single Japanese women . In Japan , in traditional families , the wife holds the control over the family's purse . If Canon can sell a M mount camera to the wife while she's single , after she marries and have kids , even if the husband wants to buy a camera like a Sony , the wife will say that she's used to Canon , so the choice is already made , because eventually she'll be the one attending her kid's school events to take the pictures . Imagine a fixed lens camera with a full frame or APS C sensor , with Canon's Eye AF and "Color Science" . The Rumor sites have been uncovering lots of Patents pertinent to such cameras . Also , Canon , has been experimenting with crowdfunding in it's home turf , Japan . Just imagine if Canon went Global with it's next crowdfunding experiment !?

Now imagine Canon doing crowdfunding in a Global scale with something more expensive than those cameras Canon crowdfunded in it's home turf , Japan . I don't know if they will do it , but who knows !?

Exactly, I wouldn't mind a leftover sensor from the R, that with IBIS and improved AF would really be great for me.

however, the pole reflects my opinion! no, canon hasn't been venturing into unknown, if mean ML technology by that, it has been around for a long time and people wanted it overwhelmingly! i was talking about MF in my post, pacifically. there is very little demand for MF format.

i am very sure canon/nikon have very professional marketing departments who figure things out where the money is

I have recently sold all of my EF lenses and my EOS R and RF 24-105 f4 IS and gone completely to Sony (A7c and A7IV). Canon just refused to make an upgrade with IBIS to the very good EOS R and with concerns that the R7 will also be 20 MP I went with Sony.

Canon would do very well coming out with Sony level MPs and video and use the rest of Canon features that are superior to Sony (IBIS, AF, DPAF and Touchscreen LCD).

IMHO Canon made a huge mistake with the 20 MP R6. Should have been an upgrade of the 31 MP EOS R.

Sony is great, Canon could be even better.

I'll upgrade when I can get most of the following:

  1. Better shadow DR
  2. more reasonable 4K video crop
  3. IBIS
  4. a few extra fps in burst mode.  I don't need 20fps like the R6, but the Rp is like 3fps real world with AF.   If it could do the full 5fps with AF, that would be much more useful.

These would put it just slightly ahead of the Nikon Z5, so not asking for too much.
