03/2021 gives us the fp L and K-3 Mark III... crazy!
2

Unbelievably − because they don't even look like they're from the same decade − the fp L and K-3 Mark III launch simultaneously. 2 absolutely polar opposite flagships, I'm interested to see how its received considering the fp L's launch.

When I ponder whom SIGMA's loyalists are... videographers aren't my first thought; albeit the original fp supporting their Cine lenses does make sense. Ricoh certainly know Pentax's audience though, with an ode to the SLR/OVF! Admirable, I hope that it's a success but as with the fp L, I'm afraid that they've priced themselves out of many people's considerations... pity.

Whilst I'm typing: it makes me dream of an SD1 H to send off the SA mount with a cheer instead of a whimper, would have been nice! A 15MP X3 APS-H sensor SLR

The SDQH is about 6 MP more than the SD Quattro, so a "Merrill" in APS-H form would probably also be about 25% more pixes than the original Merrill cameras, making it about 18 or 19 MP. I would LOVE to see that, especially if the auto-focus was better, and there was a live-view mode, a faster processor than the one in the SD1 Merrill, etc. A digital shutter added to the mechanical one would be a nice addition too, so I could shoot with really long lenses without shutter shock. Sigma could call it the SD2 Merrill.

I don't think either of the new cameras will be priced out of the market. Both are for a small group of people, who really appreciate them. I don't think the price is too high.

If the K3 continues to have the pixel shift it will give both the foveons a run for their money as long as the subject permits.  Limited I know but every camera is limited in some way.  I just don't understand why they chose to stick with aps-c but Pentax's reasoning is nearly as obcured as that of Sigma when I comes to trying to figure out why they decided what.

I don’t want another Merrill though, I’ve got 2 already. I’d like an X3 that’s an improvement over what’s come before, a man can dream!

I digress... I just think that it’s a shame how the SA mount bowed out. And that a DSLR had the potential of being successful for SIGMA, so I’m interested to see how the K-3 is received.

Well, they both are unique compared to others

K-3 III is the latest ASP-C with newest DSLR improvements. No one else has that. DSLR fan might get interested. Price is high, I would say it is ridiculous.

fp L has no mechanical shutter, it is full frame, internal raw video, 61 MP sensor. No one else has these together. My personal interest is in fp L raw video, if it can utilize 61 MP sensor in high quality way. Could be my next camera for video and maybe some timelapsing because its shutter is practically eternal.

I'm mostly a pentax guy, but recently discovered the joy of foveon with a used quattro.  I'm really excited by the Pentax K3 mkiii, the K3 has always been a really good jack of all trades camera.

I would prefer it be about 20 MP per layer. If it had live-view, I would definitely consider it . . . but it'd be hard to compete with the SD Quattro H, which would probably have had a price advantage. With images that would be only 20 MP, rather than 25.5 MP, I think people would mostly choose the SD Quattro H. I guess a lot of people in this forum would pick the 1:1:1 design though, and then there are the hard-core OVF lovers too.
