Hi Judy, I went through this same experience myself, and the advice found put me in favour of the G9 (body only), I had at that time and still do have the ever obliging G85. So after 6 months with the G9 the G85 was being used more as I found the G9 overkill and over weight for my usage. So G9 replaced by G90 body only and now after over a year I have no regrets.
This is just my personal actions, many disagree with my reasoning, but we are all individuals and have varying levels of equipment satisfaction.
So my recommendation is if price is no problem, and you get to try both G9 and G90 and find that either would suit you. Then contrary to what some may think I would say go with the G9.
Best of Luck with your final decision. They are both good cameras.
Yes... comparing specifications on paper vs in the hand can be very different things. I agree with the G9 being the best in specification, but would always recommend a "touch and try" to anyone. I have a lady friend who finds an EM1.2 without a grip way too big for her... it doesn't matter to her what the specs are over an EM5 size body (her max size limit). The only spec a G9 might be worth persevering with if the size is too big over a G95, is the much better IBIS... depending on usage criteria, great IBIS/ Dual IS2 can be a game changer.
Another thing is the pop up flash on the G95. My GX9 and a slow aperture Pana 12-32 is my out and about/ social pic camera of choice and used with the pop up flash (horror of all horrors to many here I am sure)... my EM1.2/ X and a Pro f1.2 lens is too much like hard work in this situation when I am wanting to concentrate on the company and social occasion and also to not intimidate my family/ friends either! Taking along an EM1.2 with the little included hot shoe flash and putting my smallest zoom (12-32) on it also doesn't make sense when my GX9 is even smaller and ready for everything as it is. Neither did taking my PL 15 1.7 on either body as I would have to often back up or crop images or rearrange people... that's what tiny zooms are for in these situations and nobody has ever said to me that the flash lighting was too harsh... pics are clear and sharp and that's all they care... I do get the ISO up to avoid black backgrounds and rapid flash fall off.

Credit to whoever said that first and my wife for saying it to me... Make the best you can of every day!
