I ordered 70-300 AF-P, got it new for 450$, can't wait to test it out.

Even when they make 70-200 f4 it is probably going to be around 1500$ so I am guessing in the years to come 70-300 will still be great to use.

I’ve just ordered the 70-300mm AF-P too. It’ll fill the gap for my occasional telephoto needs at a great price/performance/size ratio. Prior to ordering it my longest lens was 85mm 1.8S

Re: 70-200 f4 or 70-300mm (Z-Mount)

I assume the poll is for potentially future Z-Mount lenses since you said "add to the lens roadmap"

I can't vote since there isn't an "appropriate" choice, although Not Interested is probably the closest at the moment.

I previously owned the F-Mount 70-200f/4 and in the not too distant past, I convinced myself that I really wanted a Z 70-200f/4 S.  But as time goes on I'm rethinking this option. I'm currently pondering the Z 24-105 S along with the Z 100-400 S.

I suppose the decision will await the release (and subsequent evaluations) of the Roadmap 24-105 and 100-400 along with the new Roadmap(s).

For now, I'm content using the F-Mount 70-300/AF-P.

That is why I included a "not interested" if you don't want either of these lenses. Neither exist on the current roadmap. if the 70-300 was on the roadmap we could have a poll against the 100-400.

And that's why I added the "at the moment" in italics. I'm not totally prepared to say I'm definitely not interested in a Z 70-200 f/4 S lens.  In fact the 70-200f/4 was a favored lens on my old D600. As I admitted I was very interested in a Z version in the first year of the Z System, but lately I'm pondering the 100-400 S-Line.

I did go ahead a cast a vote for the Z 70-200 as I must confess that would be a possibility. But at this time I have no interest in a Z 70-300.

Re: 70-200 f4 or 70-300mm (Z-Mount) 200-500mm Z?

I am hanging out for a 200--500mm Z version  (I think the road map included a 200-600mm I'll settle for that if it's not to expensive).

Based on my 28-300mmVR experience, 3oomm isn't long enough for me. Thew 70-300mm may be sharper, but, I need the extra reach.

If it is a Z 70-200 f/4 S it cost about 50% of the 70-200 f/2.8 and is the best choice of the owners who have the Z 14-30 f/4 S and the Z 24-70 f/4 S.

A Z 70-300 f 4.5-6.3 (non S) cost about 50% of a Z 70-200 f/4 S and I don't see who need it on a Z camera. It was a good choice on a entry class DSRL, but Nikon say in Investor Relations notes that they don't will produce entry class Z cameras.

I think the combo 24-200 with the 200-600 is a better choice. The other non S lens is the 24-50 and we have the DX lenses. For DX you have a good 50-250, no need for a 70-300.

If the 100-400 is a f/5.6 lens it will be not so cheap, but for many a better choice than a 70-300.

The idea of the poll was not to vote on a possibility that would be produced, but on what lens YOU would like to have produced and included in a future roadmap, I included the third option for those who would not want either lens. You may be more interested in a 100-400, but that is a lens already on the roadmap which is going to be produced, and why it is not in the poll.

I had the 70-200mm f4 and replaced it with the 70-300mm AF-P. I wanted more reach for wildlife and ISO on the Zs means that the f4 wasn't all that important.

I'm really interested in seeing the production 100-400mm but a 70-300mm is a nice range. It works very well on the Z50 and Z6/7. I put up some pictures with the Z50 at https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64978972

Then perhaps a Don’t Know or Not Sure option was needed because I AM Interested but not sure.

I’ve withdrawn my vote.

Re: 70-200 f4 or 70-300mm (Z-Mount)

a few months ago, I would definitely have said a 70-200 f4. Although this is probably the best compromise between a f4.5-5.6 and f2.8, for my own use, I have recently added an 80-200 f2.8D to the 70-300 AF-P and if Nikon do go on and offer the f4, I'd want to get rid of both the others probably and I'm  far from sure I'd want to lose the 80-200 from what I've seen of it so far. Of course another possible route is the 100-400 which is no doubt supposed to be paired with the upcoming 24-105 though we don't know the apertures of either yet so much too early to speculate.  The 100-400 won't be fixed f4 I would imagine anyway.

Re: 70-200 f4 or 70-300mm

I'd rather see Tamron adapt their 70-180 f/2.8 lens for Z mount instead.  It's plenty sharp, a stop faster, and the same size as a traditional DSLR 70-200 f/4.

I would say a 70-300 but the AFP version is quite decent on the Z bodies, and I don't think (in a way) they could make a cheaper Z version. If they did make a 70-300 Z, it would likely be approaching $800 if it's like most of the other lenses.

I think a light-weight 70-200 f/4 is what they should do, to go along with the upcoming 24-105 f/4 (and the existing 24-70 f/4). This way they could have two trinities I guess: fast glass, and budget friendly, but quality glass.  If they could do a f/4 70-200 for say about $1600-$1700 that would be a good position, because the F-mount is still about $1400 USD.
