200D + Tamron/Sigma 150-600 ?

Similar to https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64934007 I'm asking for advice for a friend.

She's got a 200D with a Tamron 16-300. She'd like more reach for birding so is thinking about a Tamron or Sigma 150-600. Is it realistic that she'll get better results with a 150-600 on the, fairly basic, 200D ? (genuine question)

Thanks for all advice.

I'm sure the image results would be good but that lens is really big for the small size of the 200d. I once put my Canon 100-400 mkII on my 200d, the Canon is smaller than either of the 150-600's. With the 100-400 you basically had to use the lens to hold the camera.

Yes, she would get better results with a 150-600mm lens on the, fairly basic, 200D. But I have heard it's easy to handle on the larger camera bodies (but I can't say for sure as I have no experience with the Canon SL2 (200D) camera). I have been using a Tamron 150-600mm lens for years on Canon T3i (600D) and Canon T7i (800D) cameras. My latest pictures with that lens are here:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64947982 (look at the EXIF data to see which ones are by the large telephoto lens)

It should be cautioned for users that the 150-600mm lenses are relatively large to use hand-held and for some people this could be difficult. Although I have no problems with using it hand-held because I carry the camera/lens combination in a side bag and when I pull it out to use it or hold it, I first start by cradling it. My wrists were a little sore the first day, until I started using common sense to find out the best way to handle the lens.

Thank you, good to know!

I corrected a typo (as underlined):

But I have heard it's easier to handle on the larger camera bodies (but I can't say for sure as I have no experience with the Canon SL2 (200D) camera).

I have used that heavy lens I think for more than five years.   It's a main part of my photography.  If you want, you can scan through the weekly Show Your Snaps threads for more samples.
