NX 500 MP4 4K video file sizes Vs 1080p File sizes the same?!??!?

Hi,

Oh guys, what am I doing wrong.... I'm such a newbe :(...

Today I shot two clips with the same duration, one in 1080p, and the other in 4K, to compare the crop. I was flabbergasted to see later that they both have the same file sizes. What am I doing wrong here?

I mean, I've been shooting video in 1080p to save space and then this happens?!?! So what is going on here?!?! I suspected that this thing happened in the past, because I was filling my SD cards too fast, so I compared a lot of my previous 4K vs 1080p, with the same duration, and the file sizes are identical

PS_ its 1080p 50p against 4K 25p

A 52 second 1080p, 60p, HQ Pro, clip, occupied 444 Mb on the SD card, the same as the same clip in 4K. Is this normal? When I convert to H264 it is much less, I use medium, 16 quality...

Yes it's normal! You could just set the quality to lower for 1080p, or just convert it later.

I don't understand!?!? Is recording in 4K quality the same, as recording in 1080p, with the Nx1? When I convert it files loose a lot of is file sizes...

I'm also talking about the NX1... recording in 1080p, or 4K is the same in terms of file size... what does this means?!?!

What is the point of recording in 1080p, then?!?!?

there's at least part of your answer right there...50p vs 25p. the camera cannot record as high a framerate in 4k as it can in 1080...."p" refers to frames per second (also "progressive", but don't worry about that for now if you don't know what means)

if you're recording more frames you're recording more data. i would guess there might be some other settings contributing to the similar file sizes too.

Ok, but is exactly the same size... If you record the same duration clip with the Nx300 , 1080p, it is much smaller (444mb to 80mb.).. I know what p stands for... I had some interlace cameras in the past... what annoys me is that I record a lot of footage in 1080p, to save SD card space, so what is the point of recording 1080p 50p? Against 4K? It is stupid, only to do slow motion?

From now on I will record everything in 4K....

The file size is determined solely by the bitrate and the manufacturer can choose whichever bitrate they want.

The can choose the same bitrate for 4k as for 720p if they want.

There is an option to lower the bitrate, which you can consider for 1080p.

The real question to ask is what bitrate you consider sufficient for 1080p?

Incidentally, the quality of the 1080p footage on the nx500 is, imo, better than the cropped 4k on the nx500.

How? Changing from Pro to HQ? Have you tested? Did you see any difference?

On theNx300 you only have normal or HQ. If we change to HQ on the NX 500, will the 1080p be as good as on the Nx300? What is strange is that the bit rate seems to affect resolution, as well...

I agree, but on the Nx1 it is different, right? What wouls you choose, if the siles are the same size? It is stupid to record i 1080p if you can record in 4K, and maintain the same file size, right?

Thanks

PS: I found it... people should read their camera's manual (pag 121), once in a while LOL

I haven't tested HQ but I would imagine that it's sufficient for 1080p. In any case it would be better than the nx300, as the codec on that camera was apparently poor.

I would avoid 4k on the nx500 due to the crop, 1080p is excellent and you can upscale it to 4k or qhd for YouTube.

I experiment. It takes more space in the hard disk, so it is probably better. What do you mean by the codec being poor? I love the video quality of the Nx300, that is, until you compare it to the Nx 500 LOL the problem is that there is no way of increasing the bit rate
