Wanted: suggestions for small top loading bag for M6 II with 18-150
1

TL;DR: any suggestions for smallest possible bag for EOS M6 II with 18-150 attached, top-loading, attachable to backpack strap. THANKS!

Long Version:

Currently using LowePro Dashpoint 30 poch which tightly fits my EOS M + 18-150. Now upgrading to M6 II, which will not fit. Unfortunately LowePro has no larger size Dashpoint.

Lookign for an absolutely minimalist bag/pouch. No side pockets, not much padding nor wheather protection (I just use a regular freezer bag when needed), but want to attach it to backpack strap = vertical! Many bags only have belt loop = horizontal. Brand of bag/pouch is secondary.

Also considering LowePro Format TLZ 10 bag, but it is already a bit "more bag" than I would ideally want.

Peak Design Capture Clip v3 offers no scratch/bump protection at all.

I think the sticking point is the "vertical" requirement. About every case I know of has a horizontal "belt loop" type loop in back. Maybe you could fashion /modify one for your usage.

The bag that I have that's a perfect fit for the M6ii + 18-150 (lens hood in stowed position) would be the Case Logic "High Zoom" case. It's not a form-fitting case though, because it does have ample padding and side pockets (for extra batt and EVF)...

A very nice bag for very little money!

Good luck!

Re: Wanted: suggestions for small top loading bag for M6 II with 18-150

thx R2!

saw that bag already, but consider it a bit too bulky to carry on backpack strap/in front of chest - even if i'd manage to solve the "vertical attachment challenge".

i've ordered the "super-minimalist" LowePro TLZ 10 bag now. Hope it fits. If so, I'll try to add a vertical attachment, re-using a detachable attachment point from an old Fjällräven pouch, plus a bit of velcro.

If I succeed, i'll post an image.

found it. modular attachment I have in mind is called "Buddy-Lok". it is secure, light, inexpensive and works vertical and horizontal.

Yeah, something like leather or neoprene would be great.

Plastic would really concern me.  Something proven like the Peak Design system might be worth considering...

I picked up the TLZ 10 today for use with the M6ii and 22mm or the 11-22, with the pancake the camera fits in nicely on its side but with the 11-22 mounted (which is shorter than your zoom) it gets a bit tight already. Still fits, but I don't think that the camera would go in with an 18-150 mounted and the bag still zip shut.

i should receive the tlz10 by wednesday. will check and report. if 18-150 does not fit, i'll return and try TLZ 20. 18-150 is the largest native ef-m lens i use.

Re: Wanted: suggestions for small top loading bag for M6 II with 18-150

pd capture clip v3 is way too massive in my view for an M6 II + 18-150 is only 700g. i have no doubt a quick attach system like "buddy lok" - made from tough nylon66 - will securely hold it. maybe a risk in truly arctic conditions, but normally i don't really go to such extremes ...

while i like neoprene it would not be a good material for my intended use, it is too soft/clings to camera, it would not come out of pouch quick and easy.

leather i don't like or use except for shoes. it does not age well, does not handle wet/water well, and i don't like "patina" and am not willing to meticulously take care of it.

material Lowepro uses for their Dashpoint pouches would be best for my intended use. if only they'd make 1 size bigger than Dashpoint 30. i already wrote to their product mgmt, and they answered quickly and nicely, but with a clear "no".

I use the Canon SB100.

I find it perfect for my travel kit - Canon m50, a long zoom (will take up to the Tamron 18-400), a kit lens and a prime.

The other thing I like about the Canon SB100 is that I can use it as a shoulder bag, or I can drop it into a larger laptop sized messenger bag and it works as a padded cell as well.

thx, Photosbyhall

i have a similar sized bag too - for cam + 18-150 + 1 extra lens + batteries etc.

but i am looking for an even smaller case/pouch for camera + (at max) 18-150 - to attach to left-side backpack strap, in front of chest. SB 100 size is too big for that.

That Case Logic case that I mentioned above works perfectly for the M6ii + 18-150 (it's the same form factor as the TLZ, which I have a number of).

LowePro Format TLZ 10 bag arrived today. Just tried it, and low and behold - EOS M6 II with EF-M 18-150 attached (hood reversed) does fit. Very tightly, as expected. But zipper can be closed without forcing things.

Also, as expected the bag itself is super minimalist, very light - almost flimsy, zipper is weak and only 1 way, no weather protection, minimal padding - but exactly what I want: the smallest possible pouch to hold camera with 1 lens up to 18-150 size. Included is 1 padded diveder and a light carry strap with rotating swivel links (plastic). There is also a belt loop [5cm / 2" clearing] sewn on at back. And it is dirt cheap, only paid € 18 including shipping.

Now I just need to figure out the best way to attach it to vertical backpack strap, as I want to carry it on side of chest (not on waist belt). Either via Duraflex buddy-lok salvaged from an old Fjällraven pouch or via something like LowePro Sliplock connector. Will have to nicely ask my wife for help.

Re: Wanted: suggestions for small top loading bag for M6 II with 18-150

just checked again: the 1-way zipper on LowePro Format TLZ is at least by YKK (model 5RCz).

will post again if/once I've solved the "attachment challenge".
