Re: Melbourne City

Nice image Vitee:  The light and shadows work together, and comp!iment the geometric patterns of the buildings.  Thanks for sharing 😎

I remember that lovely shot.

Here's the same building from street level, bizarrely taken the same afternoon as my OP shot.

They call this 'The Paris End' of Collins Street. It was much more believable when I was a kid when there were fewer modern tall buildings, but it still has heaps of charm.

Edit: I just remembered - I shot a wedding in this church many years ago.

Thanks, Larry.

I rarely go into the city, but it can be quite beautiful at this time of year.

Vitee,

Collin's St. called after David Collins of London, the first Governor of the penal colony of Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). His wife was Henrietta Caroline, née Fraser from what was then  King's County, Ireland now  County Offaly.

Well, there ya go... and I thought I knew Melbourne pretty well, having started my working life at the Central Telegraph Office as a telegram boy in the late 1960s. I had to learn to navigate every street, alley and building in the city. I got stuck in more lifts, more often than anyone I know. Got flattened by a car on my delivery bike a couple of times, and once I got lost.

Thanks Sheamus.

Re: Melbourne City

Unfortunately, on my only trip Down Under a few years ago, I was only driven through downtown Melbourne to get to a restaurant. I'm still trying to figure out those weird left-turn lanes that start from the far right lane!

Yeah you really need to experience Collins Street on foot to get the most out of it. And do it in Summer or Autumn.

As for those 'weird' left-turn arrangements; they're called hook-turns, and they allow trams and cars to co-exist peacefully.
