Pana 45-175mm troubles

Anyone had this happen to them?

I wanted to take some telephoto shots, so I removed the 12-40 and put on the 45-175 (on an EM5-mk3). The screen was black. Nothing I did changed it. I could still see all the camera conditions around the outer portion of the screen, but no image. No aperture was detected by the camera.

And NO, I didn't have my lenscap on lol (1st thing I checked). The 12-40 and 8mm pro worked fine on the camera.

When I got home, I put the 45-175 on to my E-P5. It was completely usable on that body, so I took it off and put it back on the EM5. The image sputtered for a microsecond, but it worked and was usable and visible on the lcd. Weird. I switched the lens between bodies a few more times and everything worked.

The next day, I went to use the 45-175 on my EM5mk-3 while out and about, and guess what happened?! Blank screen, no aperture detected.

I just bought an Oly 40-150 for $99 cuz "why not", but I think I might miss the extra 25mm of reach. 8''(

I wish the Pana 45-200 was a better optical performer (at least on par with the 45-175), because that's really the basic all-around telephoto FL we need imo, especially for those of us who don't do a lot of telephoto work.

I suggest you try cleaning the contacts on the lens and the body because it sounds like an intermittant contact.

If cleaning does not help, I suggest cleaning the second and the third time.

Best method is a pencil eraser gum.

Thanks guys! I just cleaned the contacts, thoroughly, with isopropyl. The lens works on the camera, now.

Both sets of contacts looked fine. Not dirty or in poor shape or anything, and yet a couple swipes of alcohol was enough to get them working again. I’m ashamedly amazed!

Cheers!

The 45-175mm is a great lens.

The fact that it is an internal zoom that was originally made for video is a plus
