Fun lenses to accompaniate x100f

Hi!

I need help choosing a lens / lenses

Currently I am the owner of a Fujifilm x100f and I have no plans to sell it. In fact, I had a decision to make it my ultimate camera - it is perfect for me in terms of functionality and size. I also like the limitation in the form of one focal length - when I want to photograph, I just take it and go out, I don't have to wonder what lens to choose, etc. My best memories are a month in the mountains spent with x100s on my neck - I have never taken so many pictures with any other camera. Even though x100f is most associated with street photography, I don't do it. The camera serves me as a companion for trips and everyday life.

Recently my situation has changed a bit, we bought a house with my fiancé. And so our garden became my new photo studio, and the surrounding forests became a constantly changing landscape. Every day I go out with my camera around my neck, feeling exactly like on an adventure. Unfortunately, at the same time, the x100f limitations began to come to light and bother me...

Its main disadvantage is that it is useless in bad weather - I am afraid to use it when it is raining or snowing. This disadvantage could be easily solved by replacing it with x100v, but it is not its only disadvantage...

I want to photograph animals. Various birds, lizards, squirrels, insects appear in the garden - it is impossible to capture them with 23 millimeters.
My dog and the dogs visiting this place go crazy with joy. They run, they run wild, have fun. The X100f is too short and too slow for that. Recently I have been experimenting with the x100f, its leaf shutter and flash, there are hopes, but this focal length is probably not that...

I want to experiment with interchangeable optics, but on the one principle: chill out. I want to buy lenses with a soul, I want to play with them, not be stressed out.

I have already made my first decision, the camera I want to buy is the X-T3. Actually, it's already ordered and waiting for me in the store, I'm still just wondering what to take with it

So far, my candidates have nothing to do with dog photography (these are just cool lenses that I would like to have one day):

Fujinon 10-24mm f/2.0 WR OIS - this is for all trips and expeditions, I know the 23mm focal length inside out, so it would be fun to slide down and see what awaits there

27mm f/2.8 WR- I have already ordered this one, actually only thanks to the fact that a refreshed version of this lens appeared, I started thinking about the second camera. I have x100f for a walk every day, when the weather gets risky I take x-t3 + 27 2.8

Laowa 65mm f/2.8 macro 2:1 - it's for learning a garden macro, so it doesn't bother me that it is not WR or has no autofocus

And now what I cared about: running dogs! I was thinking over 90mm f/2.0 because of sharpness and speed. But is it not too long? Here 56 f/1.2 could be cooler if it had WR and fast autofocus. Maybe I will define myself even more what I expect from dog photography. I would like to learn to photograph something similar to: 500px.com/p/alicjazmyslowska Probably with less photoshop and a more natural effect. Alicja photographs with a full frame Canon so I don't know if this effect can be replicated on Fuji, but maybe there are chances?

There are also local birds and squirrels. Only today did I noticed the 70-300 F / 4-5.6 OIS WR. The option of adding the FUJINON XF1.4x TC WR and FUJINON XF2.0x TC WR teleconverters would allow me to photograph all the birds in the area straight from the balcony. Size and weight also do their job I don't know about the quality of photos (I like the quality that primes produce).

***

As I mentioned at the beginning: x100f stays. It will be my camera that I carry with me when the weather permits, when it is hot or at night. I will take it when we go out with friends, when there is no time to stop every now and then. When I want to relax and not think about the fact that I have to take a photo because I have a bag of lenses with me.

The X-T3 will be with me when it starts to snow or rain, when it's very cold. When I am focused on taking pictures. When we go on a trip. Whenever I want to experiment with macro, wide angles or my dog's best friend will drop by.

What do you think? The price does not matter (when it comes to Fujifilm lenses, not Leica lenses with a converter). I don't have to buy everything right away, I just want to have a plan

Thanks in advance so much for your help and sorry for the wall of text.

What an exciting adventure you're embarking on!

I'm not as experienced a photographer as some on this forum—I'll be following this thread with interest, I can't wait to hear what people say—but I have a somewhat parallel setup: X100V as my slightly smaller, 'don't-overthink-it' camera, X-Pro3 as my more deliberate option. The majority of my photos are taken outdoors, with my toddler providing an autofocus challenge that might be equivalent to your dogs.

On the wide end, I thought about the 10-24 but went with the 16mm 1.4 instead. I like primes, and I liked the close-focus ability of the 16 combined with the wide angle. I use it often for nature pictures, either close up or landscape, but I also use it for portraits. Chris Boland, a photographer I follow on YouTube, describes it as the perfect lens for taking "pictures of dogs' noses." It's a quirky lens with its own fun aesthetic—so, if you're approaching this in the spirit of "chill out," I think it's worth considering.

For the fast-moving-action option, I decided to go with the 16-80. I mulled and mulled other options, mainly the 16-55 and the new 70-300. But I decided that, in a chill-out spirit, I wanted a relatively light lens with WR, and one that, when it was mounted, would allow me to capture 'normal' photos, too, without changing lenses. (I prefer to only use one lens on any given outing.) There are a lot of different views when it comes to this lens, but I figured I'd just pick it up and give it a try for myself, then sell it if I didn't like it. Well, so far, I love it. I'm not a pixel-peeper, but to me the images look very sharp and well-rendered, and the ergonomics of the lens are excellent. It's lightweight, fairly small, versatile, and fun to use, and the extra reach has allowed me to get a few nature shots I would've otherwise missed while out with my kiddo. It's delightful to sit on a rock at the beach, let him play, and then zoom in and out and see what happens in terms of framing and the image. I know that this isn't really how you're supposed to use a zoom lens—it's lazy! But it works for me, and is relaxing and fun, and I've taken some genuinely beautiful pictures this way.

I also have the 35 1.4 (my favorite lens) and have just ordered a 56 1.2. But the 16 1.4 and 16-80 are lenses I've used that seemed relevant to your use case.

In my opinion, for birding, squirrels and dogs, you can't go wrong with the 55-200.

Those were some beautiful shots on that account you linked. Creating photos like that is mainly about skill and knowledge. The 90/2 is probably the best lens you'd be able to make photos similiar to those with, though. It's an amazing lens with fantastic image quality and a beautiful bokeh. If price doesn't matter there is of course also the 200/2

Re: Fun lenses to accompaniate x100f

I've had most fuji lenses (90mm is my favorite fuji) and a lot of adapted manuals from cheap Russian lenses, Mitakon, etc and the one I thought had the most character and beautiful colors is the Voigtlander 50mm f/3.5 Heliar. I hastily sold it when I sold all of my manual lenses because of my eyesight. I miss that lens so much that soon I am buying it again. Being f/3.5 it's not bad at all unless close focusing with my eyesight.

It's a strange lens and make sure it's quarks aren't going to bother you, but I use it with a hawks helicoid leica M to Fuji X adapter. Soon it will be back on my X-T2!
