Eos M100 not powering up - any suggestions/electronic experts?
1

Hello.

Was just using my M100, and all of a sudden it won't turn back on.

What I did so far:
Did try multiple batteries (all working in another cam), took SD out, took lens off, left battery out for 1/2-1 hour.

Just won't power up at all, doing nothing.

Cam is in a very mint condition, no external damages, looks like new. Been using it inside at room temperature. Just a couple pics, no video recording or other heat generating tasks.

Out of warranty.

Is there a way to make something like a hard reset by pressing specific buttons?

Anybody any suggestions, or even further knowledge about what might cause the issue? Would not mind opening the cam up, if I have to. Have some electronic knowledge/tools, but can't find any useful information on the M100 - would need some kind of guidiance

Thank you.
Johnny

Might be stupid but worth a try: Instead of pressing On/Off button press play to power up?

good luck

Sorry to hear this.  Welcome to the Forum though!

Open the battery door on your camera and look for a little depression around the rim of the compartment. Most Canon cameras have teensy microswitch that sits in this little well (depression), and the battery door (lid) depresses the switch when it shuts. The camera won’t power up if the door isn’t closed (and the switch depressed).

See if you can manually manipulate (activate) that switch and turn the camera on.

If so, maybe cram a wad of that foam double-stick tape in there to keep the switch activated (doesn’t hurt anything). Best of luck!

Thank you.

Did that. Found the switch and while the compartment was open, pushed it down sideways as the door should, to (hopefully) close contact.

No luck, but was worth a try!

Hi, I had something similar, after a few curses that didn’t work I tried the Sd card and it wasn’t properly seated, took it out, put it back and all was good again

fingers crossed....

I’ve had this, and also the SD card door not closed properly can cause it.

Drat.  Sorry, but you might need to do something drastic!

Best of luck,

Just our of curiosity: What do you mean by "drastic"?

I took a chance and sent the cam off to a private owned repair shop. Could go either way now, but I did not see that I could do any more on my side...

You had mentioned "opening the camera up."  Pretty drastic.

I don't have any suggestions on what you might do in there tho.  Most issues I've heard of involved something like replacing the main board.

Good luck to you.  I hope it's salvageable!
