fungus in lens canon SL2 camera 28-105 lens

I see I can use a lens wrench to open lens and clean it? Whats the best  Lens wrench  to buy.. And is this the best way to clean it? The lens is fairly new how does this happen. I do keep a cover on all lens? and in bags...

Re: fungus in lens canon SL2 camera 28-105 lens

Is this the very old 28-105 lens from Canon? This is a 30 years old lens! An inexpensive lens but I still have mine and it worked great. It was really my first lens aside from the kit lens. And I bought it on eBay in 2005. There were several versions of it, read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_28-105mm_lens. The version 2 was probably the greatest of the three versions. It was a fast lens at the time and when I use mine, it is with a bit of nostalgia. Version 3, made in Taiwan (instead of Japan) was not as great.

Seems like your lens has seen some humidity. They now sell on eBay for about $100 USD.

Basically, it is not worth much but I advise against opening it by yourself. It needs a very dust free environment and despite being old, this is a delicate piece of technology.

I advise letting go of it (meaning send it to recycling) but maybe Canon would be happy to clean it for you but with some copies on sale at a low price on eBay, if you decide to fix it by yourself, you will not lose much. However, if there is humidity all inside, it is probably scrap.

Re: The 28-105 remains a very capable lens

What I like about the 28-105 lens is that it was a very good all around lens. Mine still works very well. My dog tonight.

Can you take a picture of the lens itself to see its overall condition?

Keeping a cover on the lens and putting it in a bag is not necessarily going to stop the growth of fungus sometimes it can just help to retain any humidity that has built up inside.

Trying to remove fungus from a zoom lens is not worth the trouble far better to discard it and buy a replacement.

It would be fun to take apart. Can someone recommend  a good tool? I see many online, that would fit in tiny holes on lens? Are some brands better than others? Does Canon have its own?  TY
