My Take on M4/3 Macro
4

Very sharp lens. In my opinion, is the only real macro worth owning in micro four thirds.

The focus limiter sets it apart from the other m4/3 macro's. This helps tremendously for bug pictures. If you are taking picture of nuts and bolts, this may not seem so much of a tool. But being able to keep the focus ultra close, allows you to get multiple shots of fast moving tiny creatures, which don't give you enough time to run the full focus distance and still get the shot.

Easily the sharpest macro in m4/3.

Pleasure to take picture with this lens!

As this is a review for this lens and not a comparison, I won't speak too much on this....

If you are considering shelling about some dough for the 75mm 1.8, I'd highly recommend checking out his lens too, before purchasing either.

I own both, and the 75mm doesn't have much good use, it's a great portrait lens, and that's about all it is, and mostly what people use it for. And don't get me wrong, is fantastic IQ!.

That being said the 60mm macro is also a nice portrait lens, and it also has the macro ability, so, it has quite a bit more potential to be quite a bit more useful than the 75mm, and nearly as capable of capturing a great portrait.

I don't have that many pics on DPReview, but here's a few from a morning in the garden...

Re: My Take on M4/3 Macro

Thanks for your review. Finances permitting, my plan is to buy a body with focus bracketing and the Oly 60 in the hope of getting more reliable results with focus stacking. If not, at least it will get faster and easier. My Macro Takumar 50/4 has performed splendidly and will probably go on living on my film bodies.

Buy the lens first, and throw it on your gx7 and have fun!

I'm sure focus bracketing and all that new age jargin helps. However, if you are shooting film too, I am pretty sure even without bracketing, the lens and gx7 will make macro much easier, tehehe, take more shots and sort out the crap later!

Since you have to buy two items anyway, make the lens priority. Who knows, the gx7 may suit it just fine! The angled viewfinder should make for some great bug adventures angles.

Personally, I use the touch screen half the time when shooting bugs, especially stinger bees, just so i can react, in case i upset 1:)

I use an Old Olympus E-p5. It has great IBIS, especially for an older camera (gx7 has IBIS, probably less effective, but surely decent enough for outdoors) The screen flips in both directions (same with gx7), and having the VF-4 viewfinder (which can also move like the gx7) makes life much nicer.

Heck, I have a gx7, all this talk.....I am going to keep a macro lens on that camera and get it back out this year.

If you end up picking up the lens, we can make a Thread based on just that combo, message me when/if you get it!

Cheers,

Brandon
