Hi All.

A few pictures in the -23 C frost from Utajärvi near Oulu with a new 150-400 lens.

The best lens I have ever used

Best Regards

Very nice.  So looking forward to my lens arriving.  I waited a whole day to 18th November to place my order, so I'm probably way down the pecking order.

Argh, shut up! Statements like this can cost me 7000€!

But looking at pictures I can see why you said that. Nice results, seems like E-M1X coped at least for some time with such cold.

As incredible as the lens is (and it is), and as incredible as a camera working at at -23C is (and it is)... that these birds even survive a single night at -23C just blows my mind.  Thanks for capturing and sharing.

I have quite a list of bird species photographed down to -40°C in Saskatchewan, Canada.

One memorable occasion was a flock of Snow Buntings flying to roost while I photographed the dusk sky at -40°C.

Excellent images Lauri. I wonder how many "Where's my lens?" emails and calls OMDS will receive based on your post and Girish's post using the 150-400?

I imagine anyone who has not received their copy of the lens starts nervously rocking and mumbling to themselves anytime they see images like yours using the 150-400.

Cheers.

As much as everyone appreciates any nice comment - do you really need to reply with the FULL quote just for saying ONE LINE of text?

This behaviour bloats the whole conversation completely unnecessarily. Could you kindly consider replying without fully quoting the original text? Thx!

Great images with this new and obviously very desireable new lens. But even more astounding how you managed to get so close to these 2 species of Woodpeckers, both incredibly shy and elusive. Also great balancing of shutter speed and iso, the images on m4/3 look so much better if the iso is kept down as much as possible. The acuity and richness of color is just so much better.

I was inside hide where it was comfortable + 20 C warm. The lens was outside and the camera inside so the temperature difference between the lens and the camera was about 45 C degrees. A worse zoom lens would have fogged up from the inside, but this worked flawlessly.

The first choice under More Options is "Ignore User". It works REALLY well, and you don't have to (unsuccessfully) try to convert folks!

I can't wait to see what you can do with this lens on Bears and Raccoon Dogs - but I guess that's a summer shoot...

Lovely woodpeckers.
