Since smaller APS-C Ricoh GR III has IBIS, no reason larger Fujiflm X100V can't doing. Nobody request IBIS must > 5 stops.

I don't know why you brought up stabilization in phones. Those sensors are tiny and their small lenses are mediocre. Furthermore, no one expects optical excellence from a phone.

The GR, however, is an appropriate example of stabilization.

May be X100 series only will aggressive improve lot if next Ricoh GR :

  1. Built-in pop-up EVF/OVF (like Sony RX100 series, but can switch via replace EVF/OVF part)
  2. Tilting screen (like Sony RX100 series).
  3. WR include lens.
  4. Change to 20mm (30mm equivalent) F2 lens.
  5. Optional flash attach on side of camera (like Contax T optional side flash).
  6. Better touch screen menu like BMPCC 4K.
  7. Increase physical button via redesign PASM dial into D-Pad + larger PASM (just like existing rear bottom dials).
  8. Improve battery life via dual layers screen (B&W LCD screen/color AMOLED which used in TicWatch Pro smartwatch).

Thats a whole lot of what-ifs you think the next GR will get.

1 - Don’t want because no OVF.

2 - I’m fine with the XE4’s screen but really I’d rather the X-T3’s screen.

3 - Don’t want WR if the lens isn’t internally focusing, which is what the X100V with filter is.

4 - 20mm isn’t all that different from 23mm.

5 - I’d rather an X-E2 style flash instead of one that primarily illuminates one side of your subject.

6 - A better screen is always good

7 - I don’t want a PASM dial

8 - I spend so little time in the menus that I doubt it would noticeably improve battery life for me.

Has popup OVF but not hybrid.

2 - I’m fine with the XE4’s screen but really I’d rather the X-T3’s screen.

For keep Ricoh GR true pocketable sizesize, 1 way tilting screen.

3 - Don’t want WR if the lens isn’t internally focusing, which is what the X100V with filter is.

4 - 20mm isn’t all that different from 23mm.

For keep Ricoh GR true pocketable size, can't use internal focus lens.

5 - I’d rather an X-E2 style flash instead of one that primarily illuminates one side of your subject.

6 - A better screen is always good

7 - I don’t want a PASM dial

E-Ink top-plate + a unmarked dial (has D-pad on top of dial for quick switch dial function) may be better for keep Ricoh GR pocketable size.

8 - I spend so little time in the menus that I doubt it would noticeably improve battery life for me.

Improve battery when only use popup OVF + LCD screen for menu or basic info.

When I first saw this thread a day or two ago, when it was first started I thought 'oh Lord here we go'.

I think the x100v is pretty much perfect in the way it functions and the images it produces.

Not to denigrate the many thoughtful responses, but many of these would render the camera into something totally different from what it is and what it's meant to be - like putting a big ol V8 in a miata.

I think the x100 should be about purity and simplicity - less buttons less menus. less less less. My 60s vintage olympus 35rc comes to mind. Fuji has plenty of platforms for folks who want or need every technological tweak and optical option. The x100 should be about minimalism.

So with that in mind I propose losing the front scroll wheel which mars the smooth front surface for no reason, and implementing the xpro3 flip down screen to make it look even more like a film camera (Alas I realize this screen is so polarizing that it will never ever see the light of day in another fuji camera). Oh- and boy oh boy do I want that dura black coating on an x100 camera.

I agree that the X100V is pretty much perfect but your suggestions will 100% ruin the camera for me lol. This camera is about as minimalist as I can accept...if they remove anything else I'm out, no front wheel & xpro3 screen?? 🤷🏽‍♂️

I don't get why people hate the X-Pro screen.  I mean, when flipped inwards it shows the current retro film simulation in use via color graphic representation of the box it used to come in!  What's not to love about that?!

Better idea for X-Pro 3 hidden screen

It is because X-Pro 3 hidden screen lost X-T3's 3-way tilting screen features, hidden screen idea can accomplish via :

  1. Easy solution : turn off LCD screen
  2. Better solution : TicWatch smartwatch's dual layer display tech for replace X-Pro 3 hidden LCD : B&W LCD screen (same as G-SHOCK watch) for display basic setting & film simulation; Color AMOLED for live view/review photo. Cheap cost since extra B&W LCD is extremely cheap. https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/64851557

Agree. Better heat dissipation can achieve via Sigma fp design (still compact & WR) - large-size heat sink is mounted between the LCD and camera body.

Since X100V has tilting screen, Fujiflm can use tilting screen rack as heat sink.

The Sigma FP is an exciting camera in its own right, but I don't think an X100 series camera needs that kind of heat sink action-it's not trying to do 4K on a full frame sensor all day, every day.

Curious, has anyone here tried the FP with a small lens for shooting the kinds of things where you'd use an X100?  If so, how'd it go?

Intrigued by the f1.4 idea. It would make the camera bigger, but even more awesome in low light. I don't really need the Ti build or the resolution, although they'd be nice to have.

X-100F controls (D pad) and f1.4 and that's a camera I could run for a couple decades.

If size didn't matter, solution already exist: X-Pro 2 (with D-Pad) + XF 23mm F1.4.

X-Pro 2 just released at 2016, no yet passed a decades.

Some truth to that, but a fixed lens camera will always be smaller because there's no lens mount.  Also the X-Pro II has, like my X-H1, the last generation imaging engine.  So one would imagine the next X100 will have whatever Fuji comes out with later for the new sensor and system behind it.

I think Forest has invested heavily in tic watch screen technology company

I'm kidding, but I could see the appeal for things like top plate LCD having current camera data in monochrome as it does now, and when it's off having the color picture of what film sim you're using, like the little rear screen on the XPro 3, when the camera's off or when you toggle back and forth.

X100V never warm for stills ?

Agree that X100V more suitable for photo instead of video.

However, still has someone mentioned X100V become warm for stills photography (may be different weather in different countries).

At least cheap iPhone SE 2020 $399 has far more better UI (or menu) than any dedicated camera.

Sony PS5 DualSense controller also better ergonomics than camera. Experience gamers able faster adjust different setting (perform different character skill/action based on environment needed within a second).

Why camera industry can't improve UI or controlling?
