What do you want in a new x100?

What do you want to see Fuji do with the successor to the x100V?

I’ve owned the x100T, F, and V and love the series.  But I decided to keep the F rather than the V, primarily because of ergonomic/control problems and it running too hot even when just using menus and taking stills.

I think the F is vastly better with the D-pad, controllable auto ISO settings on the front wheel, much better delete button placement, and view mode button.  And it’s never uncomfortably warm to the touch.

Besides a new sensor, processor, and better heat dissipation, I really hope Fuji can add IBIS and rectify these design setbacks in in the next model.  And let’s see it soon!

The X100 is a fixed lens so it doesn't necessarily need IBIS, OIS would work just fine.

True, OIS is fine rather than IBIS if it doesn’t change the size of the lens much.

Would also like a slightly larger aperture and lock buttons for shutter and exposure comp dials.

Wider aperture will increase the lens size.

I have only recently picked up the X100V & I really can't fault it to be honest. It seems like a substantial upgrade from the F (you seem to disagree & I can understand).

The only real disadvantage of losing the dpad is losing 4 customisable buttons...I could do with an extra couple of those. I've had no heat issues & it's summer here down under.

IBIS & wider apertures may be nice to have but not at the expense of size & weight.

So yeah I don't think there's much wrong with it for my usage & doubt a new one is coming anytime soon. I guess just stick with your x100f and enjoy it for now & hope they don't remove more things from the next iteration!

1. A lens that doesn't chatter and has modern af motors (not gonna happen)

2. WR that doesn't require an adapter.

3. OIS (also not gonna happen)

4. Bayer sensor

With the great video capabilities of the X100v, do you think it’s going to waste seeing that there’s no IBIS/OIS?

I would like a 50mm focal length lens and IBIS.

After all is said and done and your photo is hanging on the wall, no one is going to know or care what camera, lens, or what post processing you used. All they care about is if the image moves them.
I’m not hung up on the Bokeh fad because I’m too busy chasing shadows.

  1. Image stabilization.
  2. Custom presets that cover a wide range of settings.
  3. More items available in MyMenu or perhaps Quick menu.
  4. Make all 3 AF range limiter settings customizable and make them directly selectable from a push of the rear dial.
  5. Allow rear AFL/AEL button to activate/lock focus AND lock exposure at the same time, not one or the other.

YES.  That's what I'd like to see stabilization in its successor.  I don't need it for how I use the camera (street photography) BUT I would bring the camera on other outings if it had stabilization because then I could use it for video, too.  That's something I expect of my travel cameras.  Stabilization would also come in handy for some long exposure shots.

50mm fixed lens not gonna happen but wish they could make the tele-converter a bit smaller...or you can just use the "digital tele-converter" occasionally. 50mm is not as versatile for full time use imo.

IBIS will take a while for x100 series, let's see if xpro4 gets it first. There's no guarantee even the XT40 (if that even happens) will have ibis. They only fit in ibis on X-S10 by moving the battery to the deep grip.

IBIS would be very welcome though especially as they're updating the firmware to use the ND filter for video use. It would be great on a gimbal too with it's small size (better than ibis).

Tip: get a mini tripod

I'm very happy with the V and I had the F for about 2 years... I'm glad they will be adding RAW for digital crop... (in the FW update that's coming later this month), ND filter for video is nice, but I don't video... so, personally, it's not going mean much to me... I will be keeping the V for a long time... THAT said... there have been times where I wanted to do creative shots with slow shutters speeds (handheld) and I can't really do this with the V... I'm also a Sony shooter and both my Sony bodies have IBIS... it would be nice to have IBIS when the time comes for the next X100, but for now... I'll be anticipating for that FW update

I for one just want a smaller X100VI. A truly pocketable one. That's it really.

My main desire is to bring back the d-pad. But when I see how they butchered the x-e4 I'm afraid they'll ruin the x100 line as well for the sake of some deluded desire of radical oversimplification.

I'll wait for an eventual x100vi to come out and see which one I get.

Re: What do you want in a new x100?

Well, it's a given that it'll have whatever the next sensor will be(which I hope will be bayer). Perhaps they could even make it a curved sensor since the X100x are fixed lens cameras. Aside from that I hope and believe it will have IBIS/OIS and the new NP-W235 battery. A larger aperture would be nice as well, if it could be done without making the lens much bigger. One of the supposed benefits of a curved sensor is that you can make lenses smaller, though.

A smaller XF 35mmf1.4 lens

A WR compact, same size but with 35mm instead of 23mm. I got the 23mmf2 and hardly use it anymore due to the 35mm1.4.

Would like some more B&W options in filmsimulations.

Slightly bigger EVF instead of IBIS

I'm not sure how they could make it smaller. The hybrid viewfinder requires that much depth and space on one side and the battery on the other. If they reduced the height, then the body would be wider to accommodate the repositioned OVF. If they did manage to make the body thinner, the lens would then stick out more. I suppose they could go f2.8 like the X70/XF10, but I wouldn't buy it due to needing f2 at the very least.

Good points but I do see an opportunity in at least width reduction, while keeping height more or less the same. That may result in a smaller display but I am fine with that.

The battery fills the width on the left side of the lens and the OVF fills the width on the right side. IMO the width could only be reduced by making a smaller battery, by adding an XS10-style grip to hold the battery, or by reducing the size of the OVF. None of those are appealing options to me.
