Minolta A9 with MC glass question

Hello, I have a issue I can’t seem to figure out, I have my Minolta A9 and I got an adapter from fotodiox that allows MC/MD glass to attach to A mount bodies, when I attach them and I go to take a picture the shutter button doesnt do anything, wont let me take a picture, I made sure it was on MF, I tried new batteries just incase, but its definitely something with the adapter n MC lens, I re put my AF 50mm 1.7 on it and it works just fine, I tried the adapter and MC glass on my Minolta 5D and it works perfectly fine, so its just the A9 with the issue, any guesses what it could be?

Re: Minolta A9 with MC glass question

Welcome to the forum .

I assume it works fine with an A mount lens ?

Have you got the manual ?

https://www.butkus.org/chinon/minolta/minolta_maxxum_9/minolta_maxxum_9.htm

Check out the custom functions .

"CF 16" needs to be set to "2" .

"Release without lens " needs to be set to "on" .

By default it's set to "off" .

The reason is if you've not got a lens on your camera and it was switched on , if you caught the shutter release button it would fire  and take a blank shot .

If you put the camera back in your bag with it still switched on , you could end up with a fully exposed roll of film with nothing on , so a bit if care is needed .

When you finish shooting , apart from switching your camera off , it wouldn't harm to reset the camera to auto-focus .

That way the camera won't fire by mistake .

Re: Minolta A9 with MC glass question

Thank you! Happy to be here, well thank you very much for that info, I never knew about the custom functions, I will try it when I get home from work and see if I can get it to shoot with a MC lens

Re: Minolta A9 with MC glass question

It's well worth setting all the custom functions up how you like the camera .

Once done you leave it as it is .

If the cameras new to you , have a good read of the manual I linked to .

The Maxxum 9 , Dynax 9 and alpha 9 are all the same camera , just different names in different parts of the world .

Typically any adapter that has glass in it ( like the SR to A that you have ) degrades the image .

Depending on what your using the images for , this might not be noticeable .

Enjoy you camera , and share some images with it if you can .
