My 6th year with Panasonic GX7
13

Wow, time flies! It was in 2015 that I acquired a GX7. It later became my second camera behind the GX8, which I use mostly for nature and wildlife photography.

But often my camera of choice when leaving the house is the GX7 because it is so small and unobtrusive, and fits nicely in my little non-photo shoulder bag so that I don't advertise "camera on board" when I'm out in public.

Following shopping trips, for instance, on my way home I look for opportunities to add to ongoing projects. Or I'll take it on my daily neighborhood walks.

My favorite lenses with this camera are Panasonic 12-32mm, 20mm f/1.7, and 45mm f/2.8 Macro.

A few recent:

An on-going project is local art in town.

A sculpture by a local artist in front of the city's Art Museum

Quite a bit of wall art and murals this year around town by talented artists

A local business owner created this butterfly display, "Mariposa Alley" with permission to mount it on a City Hall building.

A favorite subject is stained glass windows

It rained most of the day yesterday. During a lull in the storm, I headed over to a local park for a glimpse of the storm clouds. A panorama.

The lamp

First blooms this year of Cape Honeysuckle. With flash at night. (the built-in flash is very useful). In my garden, these flowers attract bees and hummingbirds.

This small camera is always a pleasure to use.

A nice set of shots. For the most part I'm also happy with my GX85 (sort of in between your GX7 and GX8). I don't see any bird close-ups in your examples and I've recently been drawn to taking those. I see you list an a7rii which (as FF) is something I've been pondering. Do you still have/shoot with that? What is your determination between using your various cameras?

I use my LX100 as my travel camera or when I just want something better than the ZS40 that I keep in the car (or the iPhone that is usually in my pocket).

GX7 is still my love

Except for the improved stabilization and 4K of recent generation of Pannys, GX7 is still a fine shooting tool IMHO.

After upgraded to G85, I am keep thinking of the GX7...

GX7 is currently my backup cam.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful images.

Hello grsnovi,

I am not familiar with the newer cameras. The model names are a bit confusing!

I don't see any bird close-ups in your examples and I've recently been drawn to taking those.

I mentioned that I now use my GX8 for wildlife. Here are a few photographed with my GX7 prior to getting the GX8:

Anna's hummingbird

Snowy egret

Black-crowned night heron

My reason for getting the GX8 was the larger sensor that provides some cropping room for wildlife. Interestingly, I made numerous tests using both cameras on the same subject and found no appreciable difference in the image quality - feather detail, for example. As long as there was no significant cropping!

I see you list an a7rii which (as FF) is something I've been pondering. Do you still have/shoot with that? What is your determination between using your various cameras?

I use my Sony system for landscapes, and street festivals at night, and indoors, such as museums.

You are welcome, alcelc!

It is always rewarding to go out with a camera. And I can understand why you still love your GX7.

Starting my 8th year with Panasonic GX7

Like you, I’ve enjoyed my GX7 quite a bit, after purchasing it Dec 2013. I’d been using a Canon 20d personally but often found it bigger than what I wanted to carry. My first lens On the GX7 was the Panny 20mm. It’s probably my favourite lens on that camera.

Last month, got a G9 which I’m really enjoying. However, my GX7 isn’t going anywhere. I like the pics, the handling is sooo good for a small camera and it just works for me.

Nice to read

that there are others who still use the GX7. 6th year for me too. Mine has developed the rear wheel syndrome so I have to push it in and use the 4way controller for EC. And the grip skin is worn through and coming off. If I could afford it I'd have the G9 or some Oly IBIS champion with the 20MP sensor, FAS, hi res mode and focus bracketing. An awful lot of progress made since 2015. Still enjoy shooting with the GX7 though. Most satisfying photo machine I've owned though the Sony R1 was great too. And Nikon Coolpix 5000 taught me the joys of digital photography.

Re: My 6th year with Panasonic GX7

Hi, Just completed 5 years and 3months with my GX7. Great little combination. And small with my pancake primes

I frequently use it with an Olympus 17mm, a Panasonic 20mm and occasionally a Panasonic 14mm. I use it inconjunction with a G5. My G3 I leave at work for recording stuff there.

Being temped by newer gear is always a bother, I quite like the look of a G95 or a GX9...
