Used X100s for $158 for a secondary camera

Hi, anyone still uses an X100s in 2021? How's the everyday performance? I know it's not for more demanding scenes but I just want a compact walk around camera as a partner for my XT30.

I found a used one here for the said amount, is it worth buying?

The X100 and also the X100s are superb cameras.   If you don't do video then you should be very happy with them.  Just because they are 7-10 years old doesn't mean they are suddenly terrible cameras...

Now it became $144 only. No reason for me but to buy it yeah? Haha

Great to hear that it still performs well!

At that price I'd consider it a freebee. It's still a great camera.

This photo was taken at ISO 2000 out of a driving taxi, with X100S and 19mm adapter.

Mumbai, India.

At what aperture was it? I heard at f2, images are really soft? Is it true?

It was at f8, see the EXIF data by swiping your cursor over the photo.

It may be slightly soft at f2, but it never bothered me. It never 'destroyed' any photo.

ISO 2000 on a bright day in India!? Why?

Get it! 158 dollars are almost nothing for a beautiful piece of kit.

Still have mine since it was first released. Paid 1400 euros in 2013! Need to take time with it and enjoy the experience. Has come with me on many holidays and is always a head-turner. Many people thought it was an analogue camera.

I uploaded 10 photos to the X100S album here:

Yeah, the price is really tempting considering his last price is $144.

Because my taxi was running at 40km/h.

Re: Used X100s for $158 for a secondary camera

Think about it this way, if you would be fine with your X-T30 taking the photo one second after pressing the shutter released then the X100S is fine. That's the best analog to the X100S' slower AF speed.

One caveat is that over ISO1600 the in-camera JPGs have pretty aggressive noise reduction applied to faces. If you shoot Raw, or are willing to shoot Raw in low light, it's not an issue.

I say go for it. You an easily sell it for 150 should you not like the camera.

Here is a comparison of all five X100 model, from X100 to X100V:

They suggest to buy either the 2nd generation X100s or the fourth generation X100F.

I have one, and sure wouldn't sell it for $150! It's a very nice camera with great image quality. I also had no issues with the autofocus performance.

100% yes. I haven't used it but love the cheap old used Fujifilm options and loads of us comment on how we liked those different colors on the old cameras. Sure it will be slower, but you know that and want a cheap compact. It is a hell of a lot better a buy for you than the soulless new $1,000 1 inch compacts. You already have a modern camera.

Enjoy the old "Fujifilm experience" too. It's different, exciting and the fixed focal length is a fulfilling experience. 👍🙂

Ha! Well your comment might differ if your budget was $158

If you are willing to put up with a few limitations compared to a more modern camera it's a fine camera, in particular when you use it in MF.

But despite the low price I'd check out the manual, read about the AF-C implementation which is rubbish (euphemism); AF-S is just fine in good light it never bothered me to only have a single point really.

The scroll wheel /rocker has no feedback when you turn it; that is weird feeling for changing settings or scrolling through pictures, it may wear out over time.

I also think that the 'colour experience' will be quite different once you start comparing with the X-T30, my experience:  in contrasty scenes the output was always quite dark compared to the x-pro2. (Highlight and shadow adjustments only go from -2 to +2); not sure if that is important to you but you may spend more time post-processing.

I'd also get a metal lens hood, adapter (JCC is excellent), a lens protection filter and a real lens cap if I bought the X100s again.

Battery life is surprisingly good btw.
