Close-up 3D with single shot - Samsung A12 entry level mobile.

Took a couple of pics in the workshop using new Galaxy A12 entry level mobile phone.

It takes portraits with single shot and creates a Depth Map. Used StereoPhoto Maker to extract the map and create stereo Anaglyph (Grey), Anaglyph (Dubois colour) and X-Eye versions herewith.

Wish it would work over greater distances but great for close-ups (up to about 8 feet).

Useful tool, and fun too! Know iPhone Pros work like this but for cheap phone, not bad. Whatever next?

I have a Samsung Galaxy A01 that also creates depth maps when taking pictures. Is there an application that runs on an Android phone that will create stereo pairs from these images?

I see talk of apps to run on iPhones but nothing much for Android. Personally, I download the images to Windows and use a very generously free program called StereoPhoto Maker which can do so much with your phone photos.

Others on this Forum may know of such.

In StereoPhotoMaker there is a tab (under Edit) which says 'open jpg include depth map'

What is this type of file. I guess it is a 2d jpg image with depth map information.

How do you create this file - or maybe I don't understand.

Your assumption is correct; 2D jpg image + depth map info.

Some phone cameras now create such files. Usually when used to synthesize Depth of Focus blur. They now include such entry level cameras like Samsung A12 which I just purchased. Mine produces depth map info to about 8 feet. Some expensive iPhones do better, I'm told.

Here is one such output jpeg and underneath is how it appears when opened in SPMaker followed by a cropped version of the resulting Dubois Anaglyph and the X-Eyed version.

Out of phone jpg

BTW, only cheap replica watches.

Tony Brown - Thanks for your explanation. I copied your image  ( the jpg of watches with the depth map  ) which gave me a jpg.  I tried to import this into StereoPhotoMaker  using - open jpeg using depth map - I got a ' cannot read file message'

Brian,

I have sentt you my email address privately. If you reply, I will send you the 'out of camera' file directly. It seems to lose the depth map data on DPReview's servers as a jpeg.

I received some original images from Tony Brown. Thanks Tony.

It turn out my problem was an old version of StereoPhotoMaker.

I down-loaded the latest version - StereoPhoto Maker Pro (64bit) Version 6.14

It is still free, even though it has the Pro in its tittle. This version dealt with the depth map ok.
