I asked because the beak and head look pin sharp and unless predictive, I couldn't believe that AF could keep up.

... And getting it right with manual must have been tricky, even if using high speed burst. Well done, excellent result.

Sometimes it all comes together. Using manual focus, I'm aware of the comprimise that it may not be tack sharp. But I'm content with that vs. nothing. When someone is able to present an alternative open space head on af shot of a 6 inch bird I'll reconsider my methods. 🙂

This one was upscaled, but of course the original has better resolution. The resolution upon posting recompressed does not accurately show what truly is

The warped wings in the original were a giveaway.   This is also a very nice photo.
