Nx300m Vs Nx500 colors
3

Hi guys, little background about myself. Back in 2013/2014 i started to shoot Nx210 and nx300 and love the cameras, Around 2015 when Samsung close their camera business i jump ship to Sony and been shooting Sony until now, but back of my head i always feel that Samsung have better colors and skin tones, and i just dont like the Sony colors no matter how i tweak in in jpeg or raw, so here in early 2021 i pick up a used underused nx300m and nx500 with few lenses at great price, after testing and comparing the 500 and 300 i realized these two have different colors and skin tones, Personally for me i prefer the 300 color, I'm quite surprised the nx500 has that Sonyish orange/greenish warm tones, i feel like i want to sell the 500 and keep the 300... what do u guys think?

Left is nx500, Right is 300m. Both jpeg on same manual exposure triangle and awb, srgb color space. Same lens on both kit 18-55 at 18mm

ps: i really hope Samsung will come back making cameras again..Nx2...

They have different color science for sure, I remember though that NX500/NX1 had vastly superior color science than any A7 camera I have used so far.

Can you check your WB settings and/or color profile, and whatnot? Maybe there is a setting there from the previous owner.

Both on standard color profile, and i also make sure both in same srgb color space, i guess nx500 just have a different color science from the nx300 which i used to. Will try get use to the color. Still an awesome camera in 2021!

I was never been able to put my finger on it but I always preferred the output of my NX300 over that of my NX500. Technically the NX500 is surely the better camera output-wise but to me the NX300 output has that special magic. Maybe I had a pixy dust coated copy of the NX300. I had two copies of the NX500 with identical output.
Something more real-to-live about the NX300.

Yes i agree with you, for the first time having both the 300 and 500 i realised the 500 not only different on skin tones, it has different color on landscape too, colors seem to be oversaturated, blue sky is bluer, green on trees is striking green.. the 300 colors is natural as it is.

yes, I do agree, NX3000/NX300 had the nicest jpg output, the NX300 had terrible video codec though, and destroyed the whole experience, while NX3000 had amazing (soft Canon like video) with terrible specs though!

NX1/NX500 were technological marvels, and still are in some ways with a lot better color science than even the latest A/a cameras.

NX300/NX3000 they had also AMAZING build quality, NX500 is a lot more plasticky.

Saying all that, ALL NX cameras seem to suffer from the PSAM dial dissease, something that brings down even us, the most fanatic funs of the NX system!

I haven't used the NX30, how that compares to build quality with the NX300, and anyone knows if the video mode/codec was any better? That must be a very good camera to hold probably, as it has the same jpg engine with NX300/NX3000 I believe, while being a slightly improved prosumer camera.

I have a soft spot for the NX line of cameras and still use the NX Mini with adapter. I'm again and again blown away by the clarity and sharpness of this little Jewell. Pretty much with any of its lenses. The 17mm and also the 16-50 kit lens with adapter blow me away.

I purchased a NX Galaxy while visiting my parents in Germany. It didn't arrive before I had to go back to the US but I'll be back there in May if things allow and can't wait to use it.

I loved the galaxy NX when I owned mine. An absolutely Fantastic camera. I wonder if you can still install WhatsApp? That was a great way of sharing images instantly via 4g!

I ever tried to purchase a used nx30 however it suffered the shutter dial issue, so I’ve returned it without much testing done, hope to get another one soon.

I had NX30 for a while, it was a capable camera. I sold it because of NX1, which I haven't used a lot. If I have to decide now NX30 + NX500 was a great combo for me

Here is aa old photoshoot with NX30 45/85mm - https://nonchoiliev.com/blog/5289

After further testing, I’ve decided to keep to 300, the 500 may have better high iso and faster af, but i feel the 300 has nicer colors, and i found that the nx500 awb is not consistent, it tend to shift every shots i took in the same lighting. Which is quite annoying.

I did the same. I think if you shoot RAW primarily, the NX500 has its special magic. I shoot everything Superfine + Raw but I maybe develop about 1-5% of my RAW images, literally only the 'cream of my crop' of my images. And both my NX500s I had in the past did not match my Nx300, Nx2000 and NX3000 images for jpg output. Especially with my Canon 10-22 with iris adapter. There the NX300 was breathtaking. I ended up selling all my NX gear to move to MFT cameras, but kept the NX Mini for its size/IQ ratio. After I found an NX to NX mini adapter I again bought a 16-50 PZ and a 50-200.

I love my MTF cameras but there's also something so special about the Samsung output that I bought a new Galaxy NX from ... and *boom* I'm back in the Samsung system.
