Kodak Z1085 IS - color strips across the frame

Hi there!

I am reading these forums for some time already, but just registered today as I have below problem with a compact camera I own and which was in the shelf for a while. It's the Kodak Z1085 IS which I have purchased 12 years ago, used it for 2-3 years and then I just put it to the shelf. After 9 years, I have decided to re-use the camera again, the original Kodak KLIC-8000 rechargeable lithium battery is surprisingly OK, but the images are suffering from a weird color strips as shown in the picture I am attaching. Is the sensor worn out? My plan was to re-use the camera as my garage camera to take a pictures of things with dirty hands, home development documentation etc.

Per my opinion this is not a banding issue since it appears in the pictures regardless of the intensity of the light sources. Should I try to fix the camera, or just throw it away? Thanks.

Looks like a likely power problem -- a bad capacitor in the power supply circuit.

There is a chance it will get better (or worse) after a bunch of charge cycles, because an old battery often doesn't come up to the full power delivery under load, especially in the first charge cycle. If that doesn't fix it, odds are that you've got a bulging electrolytic capacitor somewhere inside... which is easy and cheap enough to replace if you can get at it and do a little soldering.

Of course, you can get an old working Canon PowerShot on eBay for about $10....
