Panasonic trade in for the S5

Here in the UK at least, Panasonic are doing a trade in deal for the S5.

Trade in a GH4, GH5 or the GH5s and get at least £400 off a S5.

So if you're like me who got a spare GH4 and you're not using it...

I myself would love to get the S5 but I have access to the Nikon Z6 and will be buying Z glass at a later date. Maybe Panasonic will do a similar deal with the upcoming GH6 but it does look like Panasonic want M43 users to shoot both formats.

Trade in is for any working ILC not just GH5/4, those are put as example on the page as the likely audience

I have an offer for £500 for my olympus I could give it to them and get £400 so the S6 with kit lens would cost me £999

Based only on the above, I'd say this looks more like an effort to move people from MFT to L-mount.

Nope as I wrote above the trade in is for ANY ILC mirrorless or DSLR and is only at wex

I bought the S5 and gave my G9 to my son.  I love the S5 no learning curve and it is a high ISO Beast.

My comment was clearly directed only at the conclusion that the OP drew from what the OP stated.

Nevertheless, your additional comment also does not indicate that Panasonic wants MFT users to shoot both formats.  At most just that Panasonic wants users of any camera to move to the L-mount.

The offer is 400 pounds MORE than the trade in value of your ILC camera.   So a GH5s is worth over 900 pounds, so you would get over 1300 pounds.

The S5 is complementary not a replacement to the GH5 for video and nifty full frame for photos.

The l-mount lens assortment is not complete and some of the pro lenses cost a small fortune as well as the leica. Sigma is better value for money

I am considering trading in one of my OMD EM1MKII for the S5 but I would not trade the GH5 for the S5. The S5 has a lot of shortcuts low rez EVF 1 UHS-II slot and codecs are not on part with the GH5. The camera with the kit lens 20-60 has a lower resolution of the GH5 with the PL12-60

However I can get rid of the Olympus and the 17 1.2 pro lens and get a full frame camera with a sigma 35mm 1.4 art trading in the items at profit

Not just Wex, either- now being offerd by all the main players. So it would seem to be effectively a 25% net cut in the kit price compared to last week. Besides the appealling price, does it mean something like at S5R is on the horizon?

I wonder how that fits in with the rumoured 40+ mp GH6 arriving this year?

The S5 is relatively new and the S1/R/H are not being promoted it looks more like killing everything out there except GH5. The S5 does have some shortcuts and is not as premium so I am keeping it and I will match them using the S5 for low light shots

I have three unused M4/3 cameras I’d happily trade-in toward an S5 and the 20-60mm lens. GH2, GX1 and GX7.

Oh, well… Guess I’ll continue to soldier on with my GX8.
