Using a PC Monitor as an external monitor for DSLR?

Hi there! I was coming across this video where someone used his (old) PC monitor as a bigger live view screen. He mentioned that I needed an HDMI to Mini HDMI adapter (he used a VGA to Mini HDMI though) to connect the camera to the monitor. That is exactly what I did.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. I have no clue why it does not show up on my monitor. It looks like there is no signal coming from the camera. I have a Canon 200D and for the monitor the Asus VC239H. I bought these:

Adapter HDMI to Mini HDMI

HDMI Cable:

If there is someone who could help me, that would be amazing! Thanks in advance!

(This is my first question, if there is something missing please let me know)

Is the correct input selected on the monitor?

There is only 1 HDMI port on the monitor, but selecting the HDMI does not show anything. I tried VGA and DVI-D just to try, but of course that did not work as well.

Charlie,

Going through a process of elimination, have your tried hooking up another HDMI device to your computer, and/or hooking up your camera to different computer?

That might give you a place to start one way or another.

A couple of things I can think of.

If the camera is set to NTSC or PAL, try switching to the other depending on which region you're in.

While it looks like the camera should supported HDMI live view, the manual doesn't mention it. Press play on the camera while the monitor is plugged in and see if anything appears on the monitor. You will have to have a video or picture in the memory card inside the camera, of course.
