Maxxum 5 No Power

I just picked up a pristine looking Maxxum 5 from a charity shop for a few dollars. I was unable to test it and verify that it was working. needless to say I put in a couple of new CR2 batteries that I tested beforehand to ensure freshness.

When switched the camera on and nothing. There is no power anywhere, not the viewfinder, not the LCD screen, nothing. Pressing the shutter does nothing, there are no sounds emitting from the camera. I have cleaned the battery terminals, with vinegar, and an eraser, and still nothing.

Can anyone 1) diagnose the problem and 2) suggest a fix that doesn't involve having it professionally repaired.

Thank you in advance...

Re: Maxxum 5 No Power

If you've put fresh batteries in that you've tried in another camera to confirm there in good order , and you've put them in the right way up , the camera should work .

.

You said you've cleaned the contacts with vinegar ?

That suggests that the contacts were corroded up ?

In which case the other side where the wire connects up to the terminals might have corroded up as well .

These might need re-soldering .

A certain amount of disassembly will be required to access these parts .

Yes, the batteries are in correctly.

There actually was no corrosion on the terminals or on the wire. I merely cleaned them just to rule everything out.

The service manual is here: https://learncamerarepair.com/product.php?product=375

I would guess something like a blown fuse on a DC/DC converter board. That would most likely be a surface mount fuse, or maybe a through-hole pico fuse. Depending on your electronics skills, you might be able to effect a repair.

Otherwise, working examples, with lenses, are about $40 or less on eBay. I doubt you could have it repaired for less than the cost of a replacement.
