Panasonic 45mm vs Olympus 60mm macro

I got a practically new 45mm from mbp box intact all parts except user manual the lens was still at firmware 1.0 and really seems to have zero use. It is not decentred so all good.

Started making some comparisons with the Olympus 60mm on my EM1MKII body using a G9 body

Obviously the cameras despite same setting and almost identical framing (magnification is different) do have different response to colors and natural light more than the lenses do it would seem. It is quite apparent that there are tweaks to the middle grey as well.

Anyway little comparisons of the two on small miniatures close up (not macro yet)

It puzzles me that the jpeg Dxo generates is 31.8MB for the G9 and 22.7 MB for the EM1II there is not much in the frame other than the miniatures?

Exposure settings and color temperature are the same focal length obviously is not

The larger file size would probably indicate that there is more detail in the image perhaps sharper edges or more of the image is in focus. Differences in the number of colours in the image (perhaps in gradients of OOF areas) will also affect the jpeg file size.

a larger file is more recorded noise.

Unlikely they both went to the same denoising process

Re: Panasonic 45mm vs Olympus 60mm macro

Sorry don't know why that happened the 60mm is the first photo 45mm the second

Is very hard to tell even looking at the background compression seems the focal lenght difference is less

Both noise and finer detail could explain the size difference.

Sharper edges cause fewer distinct pixels, not more, as there are fewer transitional colors.

It would be more meaningful to use lossless compression for this test. Lossy compression (e.g. JPEG) introduces another set of possibilities. Try PNG16.
