The top LCD looks cheap compared to the nice one on Fuji X-H1 as well.

I thought I was the only one that didn't like the top lcd of the G9. Yuck! It ruins the design for me. I prefer the G90 and S5 design without the lcd and a control dial in it's place. I hope the G9 mk2 has the same body as the S5 - lovely looking camera.

What dials do you think the G9 is missing in the "wasted" space?

I didn't say the G9 was missing a dial or that there was "wasted" space. The dial instead of an lcd is a design preference, which is what I said.

Then tape it over with some black duct tape if it offends you that much ya whinger.

So by your reasoning, people that express a preference of camera size must also be whingers!

Only those that do it again, and again, and again, and again, in the same thread. Not looking at anyone in particular. Lol.

Put it this way
1

I have one-only G9 which I am very happy with - the G9 fits in a certain camera bag with one lens attached.

There are times when I wish to use multiple lenses - three GM5 camera bodies each with a lens attached fit in the same camera bag.

It gets a bit gnarly when I wish to use the Panasonic 200/2.8 - the bag will fit a single GM5 camera body attached to this lens - try a G9 and this lens in that bag ....  sorry I have been laughing so much I will have to wipe the tears from my eyes .... but I do have a larger camera bag ....:)

Using multiple GM5 camera bodies is more expensive than using a single G9 - especially if I ever need to upgrade them - but that is not something I think that will be found necessary any time soon.

Re: G9 too big?

My hands are rather smaller, but the G9 still fits nicely handling wise. Just for compact travelling with several lenses and/or bodies I think it can be a bit oversized. The em1ii is not much lighter, but I think the dimensions are a bit better for packing. I still prefer the G9 experience though... That is personal preference of course. A G9 with all its functions in em1ii size + live composition like the G95 would be nice

The g9 is the best handling camera  for me, and certainly not too big.

Additionally it has a ton of great features and a superb jpeg engine.

I use fine like profile a lot as it renders most of the subjects to my own liking.

Great camera.

Cinelike V is very nice. I like that punchy, contrasty look. That, & Vivid. I've discovered that Vivid is a LOT more user friendly when shooting raw & developing to jpeg now with Silkypix Developer Pro 10. In previous versions & converters, it had no hesitation in blowing out highlights at will. Now, it still makes a very punchy photo, but manages to hold onto highlights in the sky/clouds etc.

LOL cinelike was what I meant to write in my post but the spell checker decided to change it to 'fine like'...

Indeed it is my favorite. Also i am starting to turn i.dynamic on in sceneries. Is works like a charm for jpegs..

Re: G9 too big?

I agree that the Panasonic G9 is very comfortable to handle.
For the size of the body, it would have been great if they'd put a 3.2-inch screen on the back, same as the GH5. There's certainly room for it.

Re: G9 too big?

I hardly ever used the iDynamic on my GX7 but have started using it on my G9. Curious to see if it can tame to the crushed shadows of the Dynamic profile, just a bit.

Now, if I could only get my old version of Lightroom to read G9 raw files.😉
Im trying to figure out if Raw therapee will do what I want.

Have a Happy New Year!

What version of LR do you have?  If 6, I have the v. 6.14 updater and could get it to you, and it does handle G9 raw files.  If an earlier version, perhaps you can find a copy of v.6 on eBay or elsewhere to buy.

Re: G9 too big?

I’m on v5.1 I think. I couldn’t ever get anything beyond this version to install but I’m not sure if that would make a difference.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Rawtherapee can do quite well though the steep learning curve maybe a no-go from some.

Happy new year!

Give Silkypix a go. It took me a while to warm to it, buying the Pro versions a few years back changed that though. The Panasonic only versions seem to come on sale relatively often, and it's fantastic value for money. The latest free version is very good. I'm one of the freaks that likes the more natural colour rendition of Panasonic colour profiles, and Silkypix replicates them pretty much perfectly. I've still got LR6 on my system, which opens G9 files, but never use it. Preferring the SP output. Worth a try

Re: G9 too big?

Question - Does Silkypix have adjustment brushes and such? I’ve grown to really like these tools in LR.

I’m willing to learn a new tool if it’s worth it. NO way I’m going with a subscription model like LR.

Yes it does. Well, the Pro versions do anyway. Can't remember if the free one does or doesn't.

Pretty sure there's a 30 day free trial, not sure what discounts are happening at the minute though.

If you are at all interested in trying it out, I wrote a basic, starter guide for it a year back, happy to go looking for it & share it just to get you going without too much stress & frustration. It's not LR, it's different. I'm still learning different/better ways of going about things, & that's after 4 or so years of using it
