T7I and Camera Connect - Can't get it to work
1

I'm trying to connect my android phone to my T7i using the Canon Camera Connect app. Everything seems fine, the phone shows the correct camera SSID, but when I try to connect to that camera network I see "Internet may not be available" and then it says the camera isn't connected (while displaying the correct SSID). Any ideas?

Are you able to connect with any other network such as a wireless printer?

After you try to connect to your camera, do you see a little Canon icon in the top left hand corner of your wireless settings?  If you do, tap on that little icon.

Other than that, I don't have any other ideas I can offer you.

Thanks. I easily connect to my normal wifi network (it's the default network on my phone). I'll try your second suggestion a bit later.

I could be wrong, but my thinking here is that even though your are connecting the camera and the phone wirelesslely, you are not going through your router; which would be kind of cool if you are out in the field somewhere. (I personally haven't tried that yet).

I have no idea whether this connection is supposed to go through my router, which is sitting a few feet away from where I've been trying to connect. But from a theoretical standpoint, if it did need that (or another) router to connect, then it couldn't be used in the field and I've never read of any such limitation.

Couldn't you try it by just unplugging your router for the time it takes to do the test?

No, didn't see that icon. I've attached images (1) from the phone showing the camera as the current network but with the warning message, (2) from the phone showing the (supposed) connection to the camera network and (3) the camera saying that it's still waiting on a connection.

Just out of curiosity, I did just that. I turned off the router and unplugged it from the wall.

The connection went right through. The phone to camera connection doesn't go through the router.

Which is how I'd assume ti would work. Thanks for doing that. I'm now asking over on the forum at community.usa.canon.com. If I find a fix there, I'll post it here.

Re: T7I and Camera Connect - Can't get it to work

The connection isn't established until you open the canon camera connect software. I have never been able to establish a connection through my router, only a direct connection from camera to phone.

So turn on wifi on the camera so acts like an access point. Connect to the Canon SSID that shows up on your phone, then open the canon camera app on your phone.

Thanks. That's exactly what I've done. The problem is that the camera still says "Waiting to connect". I posted images of all that above. A clue might be that on page 22 of the T7i Wi-Fi manual, it says to "Select Pairing" (for establishing a Bluetooth connection), but on my camera, "Pairing" is disabled.

Try turning the Bluetooth off on your phone. See if that works. They may be getting in each other's way.

Thanks, but got the same result. Camera still says "Waiting to connect" while phone says the Wi-Fi network is the camera SSID.

Thanks for trying! I also note that no one else has chimed in with ideas, maybe because not many use that app?

Re: T7I and Camera Connect - Can't get it to work

Have you tried clearing check/clear connection in Bluetooth connections? This should then allow you to re-pair as pairing won't be greyed out anymore?

Please explain more about "clearing check/clear connection in Bluetooth connections".

Wireless Comm Settings

Bluetooth function

Check/clear connection info

Press info to clear settings

Press menu and pairing shouldn't be greyed out

This should allow you to pair the Bluetooth to the camera and restart.

The only Bluetooth function I see on my phone is On or Off. However, double-tapping on "Bluetooth" then displays "Paired Devices" and in that list I see EOST7I which is the nickname for my camera. Maybe that's why "Pairing" is grayed out, because it's already paired.

Re: T7I and Camera Connect - Can't get it to work

Remove the Bluetooth connection in the phone and follow the camera menus listed above which will then remove the greyed out "pairing" in the camera menu.
