XT2 vs XT200 vs XE3

Have anyone compared the 2? I budget to buy either a used XT2 or a new Xt200 body to upgrade from my XA1. Used XT2 and new XT200 are about the same price. I know I would prefer the screen on the XT200. Autofocus is important to me since I’ll use it mainly for family portraits (with a moving toddler). How do these compare? I already have a couple of prime lens that I plan to use.

I also added XE3 since it’s about the same price as well.

For a moving toddler I´d go for the a6400 with its sticky AF.

I have the X-T2 and it wouldn´t cut it (neither would the XT-200). Maybe an X-T4, but maybe not.

I never use the X-T2s subject tracking AF or eye-AF, it´s just not good. I´ve tried the Nikon Z6 once and that was already a much better implementation of tracking AF. But for erratically moving subjects like small children, the a6400 is arguably the best.

Apart from that, X-T2s AF is pretty fast and good enough to get sharp shots if you have some DOF and the kid´s not moving too fast.

I was considering the T200 before the announcement of S10 came. (I know the latter is two segments above). The T200 should fare better in the AF section and comes with a handy articulating screen.

However, my pick from your shortlist is the XE3 (if you can live with the fixed screen). It improves upon the T2 and is currently selling at a very attractive price, although stocks are scarce.

It would be the X-T2 for me, hands down. My kids are older and don’t move at toddler speed anymore, but with the right settings and technique I find the AF-C to be plenty snappy with a newer lens (and really not bad at all with the old ones either) and perfectly adequate for most situations, certainly at least as good as your other options and the X-T2 is just a far nicer camera in almost every other way too. The eye AF is pretty much worthless on all of them, but it’s not like you need it either. I bought and returned an X-T3 and still use the X-T2 as my main camera and I haven’t found any good reason to replace it since.

I might swing for a Sony A7c. Its going to be costly. Sell some of my XF prime lens.

A positive eye AF experience :) (X-T20)

Agree Erik, I have the X-T20. The eye AF works only if the face is larger in the frame. But recently, I was really happy about it! I had to do a self portrait for the company. My family cannot really handle the camera, so I ruled that kind of assistance out. I did it on my own with a tripod and the XF 35 mm f/1.4 wide open. I used the Fujifilm remote app and started with AF-S and the smallest square, as usual. Heck I could not get my own eye in focus, the coordination with the small square, at the same time looking straight into the camera, was just too difficult! Then I tried the eye AF - it worked out all flawlessly and perfectly!

Have a great Christmas time

The X-T2 made in Japan put Fujifilm on the map of great cameras; used by professionals. The problem is that any used ones may not be in good condition. Any service repairs? Most cameras will not survive if the owner thinks the camera guaranteed for long-term heavy use. Electronics deteriorating in time seems unavoidable due to humidity and heat.

My X-T2 preferred over my  X-T3 for the moment unless it packs up.

Yeah, while it certainly can work in controlled conditions, I find it to be quite unreliable for anything important  or spontaneous. Glad it worked out for your selfie.

And a great Christmas time to you as well,

Erik

I will  speak up  for the xt200 since it doesn't  get much love on this site  !

I am a NIKON 7200 shooter but picked  up  a xt200 for 675CAD with  the  kit zoom.

Why ? Because  I wanted a light weight  camera  I could hike with .

Pleasantly suprised that  the  picture  quality of  the  Fugie is superior  to the NIKON ! Especially  the  Velvia film similation.

Anyway the best camera is the one you use !

I was in exactly this dilemma a few weeks ago and ended up picking up the X-E3 with the XF 18-55 and I am so, so glad I did. It's an easy camera to get into, well build, rigid and attractively priced. I have loved the buildquality, easy and comfortable handling and above all the image quality (although IQ will ofcourse be identical with the other two). AF has been good for me in various settings, even though it is winter and I live far north, which means it's not very light out these days. Like mentioned above, the AF is a little dependend on the amount of light. In some dark scenario's I have shots that missed, however there I am speaking 1 out of 100 shots.

I landed on the X-E3 in this way: First of all important to mention that I got the X-E3 new for around the same price as I could get the XT200 with a XF 18-55. Given the XT200 has inferrior build quality and no physical shutterspeed dail, I chose to give it a pass. The XT-2 on the other hand is bigger, more in your face for than the X-E3 and still more expensive as a kit new. I would always prefer the warranty coming with a new camera and simply knowing what the camera has done so far. For me the X-E3 was a great pick for what I wanted: Very well build, great handling, small enough not to be disturbing at parties etc and great IQ.

I can not stress enough how much this camera has suprised me in a positive way. Good luck with your choice!

I can't agree more with these impressions. I have in fact deferred the delivery of the S10 I had pre-ordered with our local retailer in anticipation of the ES4.

The ES3 has everything I want in my next camera, except a tiltable/articulating screen that is a must-have for my needs.

While I like my X-T2, there are two issues I´d like to mention

- battery life. I think it´s awful. I have to carry three reserve batteries for any kind of serious shoot.

- battery drain. If you don´t use it for a couple of months, you will find the battery empty and the camera also forgets all of its settings and also time / date. That drives me nuts, since I don´t shoot all year round and use lots of indivudual settings. I also have a Sony A7 I, which doesn´t show any battery when not in use.

Re: XT2 vs XT200 vs XE3

I bought a minty used X-T2 early this past summer, and it has been an excellent camera in every way. The only other camera I was considering was the X-T20.    I use it with an ancient and very used 35mm f/1.4 and the 60mm f/2.4, both optically excellent lenses not known for their AF speed, and both perform better than they do on my X-T10.
