Digic Version and Drive Modes

Am I correct in guessing that the "Silent" drive mode available in some Canon DSLRs only comes with Digic versions higher than the version 4 in my T7?

Anyone know which version I'd need to get this? I'm utterly content with the relative size and heft of DSLRs; I just can't abide the incessant gotdamn noise anymore.

Re: Digic Version and Drive Modes

I tried to find some information on Youtube and only had a little success with hearing the sounds from cameras.  There are some Canon cameras that have silent mode like the Canon M50.  But I don't know how much different they will sound.  Maybe the best way to know, is to go to a retail store and test them out.  Or ask the questions on one of mirrorless Dpreview forums.  I believe some of the more expensive Canon DSLR cameras have also better control of the shutter sound.

There are times having a silent mode is important.  One time when I was taking pictures of a performance on a stage, I had to wait until there was some laughter etc., before I would push the shutter.  I was able to get good pictures, but I didn't want to annoy other people around me with the clicking noise.  Another time was when I was taking pictures of birds near a feeder, the clicking noise would scare a few of them off.  I would consider something like a mirrorless camera also, if I could find one that had a useful silent mode.  It's something I have been thinking about.  It hasn't been a high priority with me, but I often have that in the back of my mind.

What benefits would you find having a camera with a silent shutter mode?  Is it just annoying or are there other reasons?

I like to work the edges of gatherings for candids. Plus, this T7 body is like a noise amplifier. I was never so annoyed with my metal, mechanical SLRs of yore.

In DSLR, silent mode is not very silent. You still hear the shutter cliked.

In mirorrless like M50, it's virtually no sound emited since it uses electronic shutter (may be you can hear the aperture blade if shooting very quite room). But the Silent shutter mode worked in auto mode, means user cannot set shooting parameter, like aperture, shutter, ISO, etc.
