Capturing still frames in-camera Vs in software

A handy feature of the NX1 and NX500 is the ability to capture still frames from 4k footage.

Previously I have plugged my cameras into my computer via HDMI and captured frames in-camera. This also preserves the exif info, which can be helpful.

More recently I've been editing video and photos on my tablet so had been choosing still frames using the camera LCD. However, it's often difficult to see which frame is the sharpest so now I load all the footage onto my tablet and freeze frame and take a screenshot. It's a bit more fiddly this way as there is no way to advance one frame at a time, however you are left with a 4k image.

Is there any disadvantage to doing it this way in terms of image quality? I can cope with losing the exif info.

Why would you take screenshots? Do you have a video player that can save frames? IIRC there were a few, ad supported if free, even on Android. I use my laptop for this and mpv video player that can easily advance frame by frame and save frames via keyboard. I also like to take shots on the camera as it's often simply faster than transferring a few gigabytes.

They aren't screenshots per se, there is an option on my tablet within Samsung media player to grab a frame and it's the full 4k version. I used to use my PC for editing but now use an android tablet, and there are no apps that do this particularly well. I'd be happy to do it in camera but due to the size and resolution of the screen it's hard for me to pick the best frame.

Funnily enough on my old Note 4 there was the option within the stock media player to grab a frame and advance forwards and back one frame at a time, and this worked really well. For some reason only known to Samsung they removed the ability to grab frames, and then later on reintroduced it but without being able to advance forwards and back one frame at a time.

I can't see any difference (apart from a lack of exif info) between frame captures I make in-camera compared to those I do on my tablet. I don't know if technically speaking there is a difference. Interestingly those captures I make with the tablet are larger in file size compared to the ones in-camera.
