Sigma 70-300 APO DG or the non APO version?

Which one would you recommend?

I'm also considering the Tamron.

I'm looking for a longer lens for my K-1M2 on a low budget.

Thank you.

You will want the APO version, or the Tamron, each have their issues, but thats what you get for a consumer zoom.

I have the non APO version and it's a ok lens. You should shop around some of the more vintage lenses with AF (auto focus) as there are a number of excellent choices and inexpensive. When home tomorrow, I'll name a few

Got the Tamron 70-300 recently. Very sharp from 70 to 180mm, not too bad at the long end, but very strong purple fringing in contrast areas.

The dog pic was shot at 300mm.

The Tamron was my first lens I bought after my K100D. And I did get some good photos with it. The PF comes as a standard but i also tried a sigma 70-300 and found it very soft past 180. It wasn't a modern one though.

First you make sure you can't score the Holy Grail of Pentax mount Sigma lenses, the Sigma 100-300/4 EX APO IF (DG). Then you look for the other 2. And yes the APO version of the Sigma 70-300 is the better one. I always liked the Tamron one also.

The APO version for sure, and I'd avoid the Tamron.  I used both lenses about...12 years ago, and remember that the Tamron had a LOT of hard to correct CA.
